Does Ikea’s Platsa system actually offer custom size variations? Specifically, I mean whether Ikea provides, in addition to the standard dimensions of the Platsa wardrobe systems, any customized or alternative sizes that go beyond the usual widths, heights, and depths. I have heard that Ikea sometimes works with modular units, but I am not sure if there are official custom sizes or special adaptations for built-in situations with unusual room dimensions. Perhaps also whether there are accessories or extensions that allow flexible adjustments in private homes without having to rely entirely on custom furniture makers. I am interested in this from a planning perspective, as I have a room with an unusual shape and I really appreciate the functionality of the Platsa series. So, is there any information, experience, or official statements on whether such variations are available?

A precise answer regarding custom sizes for Ikea Platsa: The system is based on standardized module dimensions that allow for efficient mass production and high compatibility. Currently, there is no official option for custom measurements with Platsa. The available widths are usually 40, 60, and 80 cm (16, 24, and 32 inches). Height and depth are also standardized to ensure compatibility between modules, doors, and interior components. For unique room layouts, Ikea recommends either planning by combining the modules or using accessories that allow minimal adjustments. Custom manufacturing is therefore not part of the product range.

Thank you for the detailed contributions here! I find it very helpful to also hear the perspective that Ikea deliberately avoids custom sizes to keep the system modular and flexible. That eases some of the uncertainty I had because my room has niches of varying widths. It reassures me that many people here report that with patience and combining modules, almost everything can be solved. I will probably try to work with the standard modules first before even considering custom-made options. Thanks again!

[@GALEO4, post: d0o3h7, member: XXX]In my experience, the question of whether Ikea Platsa is available in custom sizes can be clearly answered with a no – at least officially.[/quote]
I also see this as a very important point – Ikea’s philosophy is modular and affordable, and custom-made options would clearly go beyond that. Still, it would be interesting to know if there are occasionally limited adjustments in certain markets or through customer service. Simply to understand how Ikea actually handles requests for custom sizes. Does anyone here have experience with longer consultations with Ikea staff regarding custom sizes? Or any insights on whether occasional custom solutions with Platsa are possible?

No, Ikea does not offer official custom sizes for Platsa. Special requests have to be fulfilled through external carpenters. Ikea itself sticks to the standard modules.
