Does Ikea’s Platsa system actually offer custom size variations? Specifically, I mean whether Ikea provides, in addition to the standard dimensions of the Platsa wardrobe systems, any customized or alternative sizes that go beyond the usual widths, heights, and depths. I have heard that Ikea sometimes works with modular units, but I am not sure if there are official custom sizes or special adaptations for built-in situations with unusual room dimensions. Perhaps also whether there are accessories or extensions that allow flexible adjustments in private homes without having to rely entirely on custom furniture makers. I am interested in this from a planning perspective, as I have a room with an unusual shape and I really appreciate the functionality of the Platsa series. So, is there any information, experience, or official statements on whether such variations are available?

In my experience, the question of whether Ikea Platsa is available in custom sizes can be clearly answered with a no—at least officially. Ikea sticks to modular, standardized dimensions with the Platsa system to save costs and keep the product line as streamlined as possible. Custom sizes would significantly increase production and logistics expenses. However, one could argue that custom sizes are not necessary since the modules are designed to be combined almost indefinitely. The seemingly missing custom sizes are more likely a planning issue on the customer’s part, who may not be creative enough with the existing dimensions. In my opinion, the idea that Ikea should offer a custom manufacturing service misses Ikea’s philosophy. This is not a bespoke carpentry service but a self-assembled standard product. I wonder whether the desire for custom sizes simply reflects a luxury or convenience that modular furniture is actually meant to make unnecessary.

Ikea does not offer official custom sizes for Platsa. However, you can combine different modules to create various dimensions. The system is modular, not custom-made.

I think the Platsa system is really cleverly designed! If you plan it out carefully, you can create quite a lot with the modules, even though there are officially no custom sizes. 😊 Of course, the standard dimensions are fixed, but for example, in my apartment, I bridged small partition walls by combining different modules. Sometimes it takes a bit of patience and imagination, but then it fits perfectly. Custom sizes would be nice, that’s true, but maybe that would take away some of the fun of experimenting with Platsa? 😉

I fully understand the concern. Ikea Platsa does not offer custom sizes due to its modular system approach. You can combine different widths (e.g., 40 cm (16 inches), 60 cm (24 inches), 80 cm (31 inches)) and heights, which provides a high degree of flexibility. For unusual room dimensions, a custom build by a carpenter is often a better option. Alternatively, you can use add-on elements, shelves, or plinths to compensate for small size discrepancies. Those with some DIY skills can close gaps this way, but Ikea itself does not provide these specific custom sizes. This is understandable given their mass production and inventory system.

Hi! I have also looked into Platsa extensively and really appreciate the variety it offers. Of course, there are no true custom sizes, but thanks to the modules, you can make very good use of your space. Recently, I rearranged my setup and wow, the result was amazing. If you look closely at the system dimensions, you can build almost any angle. Don’t get discouraged; with a bit of patience, it will definitely work out! 🙂
