Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to buy some IKEA Platsa furniture, mainly cabinets with drawers. One thing that interests me a lot and also makes me a bit uncertain is the stability of the existing drawer slides.
I would specifically like to know: Are there drawer slides for IKEA Platsa furniture that are considered particularly sturdy? Or are the standard slides rather less durable and prone to wear?
I am especially looking for experiences or recommendations from people who have used Platsa drawers over a longer period in everyday life, especially with heavier contents such as books or dishes.
Any experiences, tips for reinforcement, or alternative solutions would also be very welcome.
Thanks in advance!

For heavier loads, I recommend using external, higher-quality drawer slides, such as full-extension metal ball-bearing slides from specialized suppliers. That sounds like a good compromise to me. I had also considered replacing the slides myself to prevent long-term damage. How about you—do you have any tips on what to watch out for when retrofitting? Measuring and proper installation seem tricky to me.

- Measure the drawer sides precisely to choose drawer slides of the correct length.
- Pay attention to the drawer weight, as each slide has a maximum load capacity.
- Drill holes are often pre-marked by IKEA, but replacement slides are usually not compatible with these—custom markings and templates are necessary.
- Patience during installation helps; crooked mounting reduces stability and smooth operation.
I also recommend checking sample products in a hardware store or online shop beforehand and gathering comparison information.
I just wanted to add that the stability of the PLATSA drawer slides also greatly depends on how carefully the furniture is assembled and where it is placed.
Small inaccuracies during assembly or uneven floors can, over time, lead to slight detachment or poorer sliding performance.
I was fortunate that my PLATSA drawers have been running smoothly for two years, but I have made a point to load them relatively lightly and rarely overload them heavily.

Does anyone know if there are differences in the PLATSA sliding systems at IKEA depending on the model or price range? Unfortunately, I can’t find any specific information about this in the product description.
