Giancarl3810 Oct 2018 08:27Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into Ikea Platsa furniture because I am considering purchasing a customizable storage system for my home office. It is important to me that the furniture is especially sturdy, as I need to store a lot of technical equipment and some heavy binders.
My question is: Are there any Platsa furniture variants or specific components at Ikea that offer higher load capacity? Perhaps thicker panels, reinforced constructions, or official maximum load ratings that exceed the standard?
I would appreciate any experience or additional information before I make my decision and place an order.

PLATSA elements have maximum loads of around 15-20 kg (33-44 lbs) per compartment, no more. That is correct. Ikea does not guarantee high load capacity for PLATSA. For heavier items, it is better to use KALLAX or Ivar.
For PLATSA, the only solution is to reinforce the interior, add additional supports, or secure it to the wall.
Hello,
PLATSA is very flexible, but it's not really designed for handling very heavy loads. 😉
If you want to store many heavy binders, I would recommend mounting it to a wall and possibly adding extra reinforcements, such as metal brackets. This way, you can make the system more stable without having to switch to heavy furniture.
It will also make the whole setup more durable in the long run.

If you need to accommodate more weight, you should either distribute it across several compartments or consider other product lines.
Greater stability is achieved by securing the unit to the wall. Without wall mounting, the load capacity is significantly lower.

Does anyone know if Ikea offers these additional brackets or reinforcements specifically designed for PLATSA, or are these usually DIY solutions using parts from hardware stores?
And one more question: Has anyone had experience combining PLATSA furniture with other Ikea series that might be more stable?
