Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into Ikea Platsa furniture because I am considering purchasing a customizable storage system for my home office. It is important to me that the furniture is especially sturdy, as I need to store a lot of technical equipment and some heavy binders.

My question is: Are there any Platsa furniture variants or specific components at Ikea that offer higher load capacity? Perhaps thicker panels, reinforced constructions, or official maximum load ratings that exceed the standard?

I would appreciate any experience or additional information before I make my decision and place an order.

Does anyone know if Ikea offers these additional brackets or reinforcements specifically designed for PLATSA?

Ikea does not provide special brackets for Platsa, only the standard wall fixings and shelves. Additional reinforcements, if needed, have to be added by yourself.

Any experience with combining PLATSA modular furniture with other Ikea series that might be more stable?

I combined PLATSA with KALLAX, which worked well, and KALLAX is definitely more stable. With PLATSA, you need to pay close attention to assembly quality, otherwise it can become wobbly quickly.

Exactly, if you want to be on the safe side, you can enhance PLATSA with suitable metal brackets from the hardware store.

I think that’s part of PLATSA’s appeal: you can customize and upgrade it as you like.

And yes, combining it with other series like KALLAX or BESTÅ is often practical, although the overall stability then depends on the particular series. 😉
