Hello everyone, I am currently considering whether I can use an Ikea PLATSA system to store my belongings in a more secure and organized way. Specifically, I am interested in whether Ikea PLATSA furniture elements come with lockable compartments or if it is possible to add locks myself. It is important for me to be able to lock individual compartments or sections to protect them from unauthorized access, for example, for documents or valuables. Does anyone have experience with this or know if there are official solutions with lockable doors or drawers? Or maybe some tips for modifications? Thanks in advance for your feedback and ideas!

Regarding the Ikea PLATSA system with lockable compartments, it should be noted that Ikea does not officially offer lockable doors or drawers for the PLATSA system. The fronts are modular, but lockable options are not available.

However, it is possible to add locks using accessories such as separate cabinet door locks or clip-on locks. This is not part of Ikea’s standard setup and must be installed independently.

Anyone prioritizing security should consider a different furniture system or additional security measures, such as lockable boxes inside the compartments.

I’ve been experimenting a bit, and yes, Ikea PLATSA is very flexible, but unfortunately, there’s no built-in locking option. 😅

You can add small padlocks or even clamp or latch mechanisms yourself – not the most elegant solution, but it works! 🛠️

So, if you really want to lock it, the DIY approach is the way to go, or you can get a lockable box to put inside the compartment. Not perfect, but practical!

PLATSA does not have lockable compartments.

You need to find your own solution, for example by installing additional locks.

Thanks, that was already quite helpful.
I’m interested to know if anyone has actually installed accessories or locks and how practical they are in everyday use.
Other suggestions along these lines are also welcome. The main goal is to protect certain items from quick access, not to create a high-security system.

I have used PLATSA in combination with lockable storage boxes. This keeps the system modular and flexible while increasing the security of the contents.

Retrofitting locks onto the doors is possible, but it is neither very elegant nor straightforward. Therefore, solutions built into the system, such as lockable boxes or compartments that fit inside the units, are preferable.
