Are there Ikea PAX wardrobes with integrated lighting? I am currently planning my wardrobe using Ikea’s PAX system and wondering if there are models that come with built-in lighting from the factory. I am especially interested in versions where the lighting is permanently installed and visually well integrated, rather than add-on or plug-in solutions—an actual factory-installed option. If not, how good are the official Ikea lighting options for PAX, and what are your personal experiences with them?

Ikea does not offer PAX wardrobes with built-in lighting. However, you can purchase compatible LED strips and spotlights as accessories and install them yourself. This works well and looks attractive.

I can only agree with Mekau, Ikea sells the PAX wardrobes without integrated lighting. However, they offer separate light modules that can usually be attached inside the frame using adhesive pads or screws. Especially popular are the LED strips equipped with motion sensors. It is important to pay attention to the power supply – this is usually done via standard 12-volt adapters, which are connected at the back.

If you value a clean look, I recommend planning the areas so that the light sources are discreetly placed, for example, at the top or on the inside of the doors. For installing a properly fixed, fully integrated lighting system, you will need to retrofit it yourself, as this is not standard with Ikea.

Otherwise, the official Ikea lighting sets are functional and look good, but they are mounted loosely.

Thanks, Mekau, that already confirms my suspicion.

Very helpful, Marsar. I’m interested to know if anyone here has installed Ikea LED lighting in the PAX wardrobes and how the wiring and cable management work in practice.

Are the Ikea lighting systems easy to wire without affecting the appearance or requiring extensive modification of the cabinets?

Also, is it possible to install motion sensor LEDs that automatically turn on when the doors are opened? If so, how have you set this up, and how well does it actually work?

The LED lighting offered by Ikea for PAX wardrobes, especially those with motion sensors, is actually quite user-friendly. They can be easily installed using the included adhesive pads and have an integrated circuit that activates when the wardrobe door is opened. Power is supplied via a power adapter, which can be conveniently hidden near the power outlet.

For neater cable management, it is worth securing the cables along the edges of the wardrobe using cable clips. Some users drill small holes or mill channels, but this is not strictly necessary.

For a fully integrated and invisible lighting system, however, you will need to be creative yourself and possibly use other LED solutions combined with electrical skills, as Ikea does not offer a complete solution here.

As dota57 already mentioned, the official Ikea PAX lighting system is the easiest option. The motion sensors are convenient because they don’t require any additional wiring for switches.

If you want a more integrated solution, you could install LED strips behind the wardrobe frame and control them via a separate switch or a central light switch.

Regarding automation: For maximum functionality, you can also use LED light bars with smart home features or battery-powered modules that can be installed quickly without any changes to the wiring.

It is very important to check the exact power connections on the PAX frame before installation, as Ikea provides, to ensure everything is installed cleanly and safely.
