Hello everyone,
I am currently considering purchasing an IKEA Pax wardrobe system and want to make it as functional as possible. In this context, I wonder if IKEA Pax systems come with built-in lighting solutions, meaning lighting options integrated directly into the system without needing to install separate lamps or carry out complicated electrical work.
Is it possible to configure a Pax system with lighting already integrated into the wardrobe components? And if so, what types or variants of lighting are available? Are LED light strips typically used, or are there special lighting kits designed specifically for the interiors of Pax wardrobes?
I am also interested in how easy the installation and electrical connection are managed and whether any third-party accessories might be recommended. Thanks for sharing your experiences and tips!

Hey Diribar,
very good and detailed question! 🙂 I use my Pax wardrobe with integrated LED strips that IKEA offers. They are actually designed to be mounted directly in the frame and provide very bright light while consuming little power.
Installation is quite easy – you can power them with batteries or a power adapter. I use the power adapter and placed a small cable management system inside the cabinet, which looks very clean.
My tip: When buying, pay attention to whether you want them with or without a motion sensor, as that makes it much more convenient.
Good luck with your project!

Hello Diribar,
a very good topic you bring up here. IKEA’s Pax systems indeed offer different options for adding lighting to the interior. The most popular choice is LED light strips that can be attached directly to the inside wall or the cabinet frame.
Here are some details:
- IKEA sells several versions of LED lights for Pax, for example the "LILLÅNGEN" LED profiles, which are available both as mains-powered and battery-operated versions.
- The installation is quite modular; the strips can be positioned as you like and are often connected by a simple plug-in system.
- There are light strips with motion sensors, which make switching on and off automatic and greatly increase convenience.
However, and this is important to mention, the lighting systems for Pax are not built-in by default. You have to purchase them separately and install them yourself. This means they are not integrated into the actual cabinet volume or the side panels, but come as additional accessories.
Regarding the power connection:
- The power supply usually consists of a simple plug-in adapter, which can be easily hidden behind or beneath the cabinet.
- It’s important to route the cables neatly to avoid damage and to keep the design clean.
Additionally, for lighting larger Pax systems, you may need extra accessories such as extension cables and mounting brackets.
If you are comfortable with DIY, there are also various third-party solutions with LED profiles or custom lighting units available, some offering a wider range of color temperatures and brightness levels.
One more question: What is your room concept? Are you planning to use the lighting as the main light source or rather as accent lighting inside the wardrobe?

This means they are not built into the actual cabinet volume or side panels, but are offered as additional accessories. I can only agree with that. IKEA does not offer any Pax units with factory-installed lighting. The standard IKEA lighting solution for Pax is based on modular LED light strips that can be flexibly attached to the inside of the cabinet walls either by adhesive or screws.
The following should be considered:
- The light strips come in various lengths and optionally include motion sensors.
- Power supply is provided through power adapters, which need to be plugged in separately.
- Installation does not require specialized skills, but precise measurement of the cabinet interior dimensions and careful cable management are advisable.
I also recommend checking the technical data sheets from IKEA carefully before purchasing to ensure the lighting options meet your requirements for brightness and energy consumption.
In summary: yes, there is lighting for Pax, but it is not pre-installed. This means an “integrated” solution in the sense of factory assembly currently does not exist.
