Hello everyone, I recently purchased an Ikea Pax system and am currently facing the challenge of assembling the drawers precisely and as easily as possible. I wonder if there are any proven tips or methods that can simplify the process or improve the quality of the assembly. I am especially interested in advice on aligning the drawers, smoothly inserting them into the runner rails, and avoiding common issues such as sticking or misaligned drawers. Who has experience or perhaps special tricks to share? I look forward to your suggestions!

Hello Dumodan, there are definitely some helpful tips for assembling the Pax drawers. First, it’s important to sort all the parts beforehand and unpack them carefully to avoid losing any small components.

For alignment, it often helps to fully assemble the drawers before inserting them into the runners and then gently push them in. Make sure the side parts of the runners are properly seated in the drawer, as otherwise they might catch or stick.

Another tip: use a small screwdriver or a flat tool to position the clips on the guides correctly – it’s easy to misalign them here, which can cause problems later.

If the drawers still run slightly off after installation, sometimes slightly adjusting the runners on the carcass helps. Just move them a few millimeters and test.

I hope this helps you for now. If you want, I can explain some of the steps in more detail!

Hey Dumodan, it’s great to see you putting so much effort into this! 😃 I recently assembled my Pax drawers myself, and honestly, my best tip was not to try doing too much at once. Take it step by step, and keep checking if the drawer slides smoothly.

A little tip: sometimes lightly oiling the runner rails before installing them helps – not too much, just a little – then the drawers glide in and out much more easily. But be careful not to get any oil on the inside edges, or the drawer might come loose! 😉

Good luck with your build, it’s sure to turn out great!

Assemble the drawers completely, then insert them into the slides.
Check the guide rails to ensure they are parallel to the cabinet.
Small adjustments to the fastening screws can prevent jamming.

In addition to the mentioned tips, I recommend strictly following the assembly instructions from Ikea, as precision in alignment is crucial.

A proven trick is to align the drawer fronts using a spacer before finally tightening the screws, to avoid uneven gaps.

Also, make sure to install individual components (such as side panels and bottom pieces) firmly but not overly tight, to prevent warping.

If available, small rubber or plastic pads at contact points can help reduce noise and minimize the drawer sticking.

That’s an important point. Installing them can often be a bit tricky. My advice: set aside enough time and carefully follow the instructions when mounting the runners. If the plastic click mechanisms don’t engage properly, simply loosen them slightly and try again with a bit more pressure.

Additionally, during the first installation, you can temporarily place a piece of paper (e.g., a folded leaflet) between the drawer front and the cabinet to create a small gap or air space. You can remove this once the drawer is installed, if needed.

I hope this helps you.
