Hello everyone, I am planning to install my Ikea Hemnes wardrobe in my bedroom on a very uneven wooden floor. The unevenness is noticeable, causing the wardrobe to wobble slightly when placed directly without any adjustments. My question: What is the best way to install the Ikea Hemnes on uneven floors so that the piece of furniture stands securely and stably without developing damage or wobbling over time? Are there any suitable solutions for compensating unevenness that you have tested? I am open to practical tips, possible additions like pads or leveling feet, as well as advice on how to adjust the installation process generally or what to consider regarding the screws. I look forward to your experiences and recommendations.

In short: In my opinion, the simplest and most reliable solution is to use adjustable furniture glides that you attach directly under the legs. This way, after installation, you can individually compensate for any unevenness in the floor and align the cabinet precisely. Make sure to screw the glides firmly in place so nothing wobbles or shifts. If the floor is extremely uneven, you can also secure a stable base plate on the floor for the cabinet to stand on.

Buy adjustable feet, install them, adjust the height – done. Other solutions like wedges or pads are usually only practical for the short term and can slip. For Hemnes, adjustable furniture glides are the best choice.

Hello, basically I agree with the recommendations. I would add the following: If you choose adjustable feet, make sure they have sufficient load capacity, as the weight of the HEMNES can be quite significant depending on its size and contents. Ideally, choose models made of metal with a plastic base, as they offer a good balance of stability and floor protection. If you want to use wooden wedges, it is advisable to seal them shock-resistant to reduce the effects of moisture and swelling. It is also important to regularly check the stability, even after assembly. Wood changes over time, so readjusting the adjustable feet may be necessary. Finally, if you notice a slight unevenness, a thin rubber or felt pad under the cabinet can help compensate for small height differences. This prevents stress at the connection points of the furniture.

I used small foam rubber pads that can be stuck, for example, under the feet. They not only reduce wobbling but also protect the floor.

A very good tip. Soft materials like foam rubber or felt work well for minor unevenness and also help prevent scratches on the floor. For more significant height differences, I still recommend adjustable feet, as otherwise there is a risk that the furniture won’t rest on all feet, which can cause mechanical stress.

I agree – especially for a piece of furniture like HEMNES, which is heavy and frequently used, a permanent solution is preferable. Wedges can be underestimated because over time they shift, causing the cabinet to become unstable again.

Thank you all for the extensive advice and tips! I find the combination of adjustable furniture glides and a sturdy base plate particularly interesting as a possible solution. It seems that my floor has some minor unevenness – I will probably first check the level with a spirit level, then buy new glides and also consider a thin OSB board as an underlayment. I will report back on how it worked out.
