Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Platsa wardrobe and want to place it on my slightly uneven laminate floor. The problem is that the wardrobe isn’t fully stable because the unevenness reaches up to 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) in some areas. My question is: What methods or tools would you recommend to securely and permanently stabilize the Platsa so that it doesn’t wobble or, in the worst case, tip over? I’m mainly looking for practical solutions that won’t damage the furniture or be too complicated. I would really appreciate any experience or tips, especially regarding what works well with slight to moderate floor unevenness.

I would say most people approach this problem the wrong way and rely on makeshift rubber pads that ultimately don’t help. The issue is almost always about proper anchoring to the wall, not just the base area. IKEA furniture comes with multiple screw holes for wall mounting, and everything else is basically a makeshift solution. So why not ensure stability right away with a secure wall installation? Anything less is half-hearted at best and could even be risky.

Reduce wobbling by using adjustable furniture feet or small shims. Wall mounting is always essential. This is an effective way to compensate for unevenness.

I understand your problem; uneven floors are actually quite common with PLATSA. It is important to properly adjust the furniture legs. IKEA offers adjustable feet for purchase if the ones provided are not sufficient. If the floor is uneven, you can place small, sturdy rubber or hard plastic wedges under the feet to prevent the cabinet from rocking. Also, don’t neglect wall mounting, as it greatly increases stability.

If the unevenness exceeds 1 cm (0.4 inches), it is worth leveling the floor at that spot or using a thin board as a base. The key is to avoid any makeshift solutions that can slip permanently.

I can only agree! I combined my PLATSA with adjustable feet and a secure wall fastening, and now it stands rock solid! Especially on uneven floors, wall attachment is worth its weight in gold. Do it, and you’ll have peace of mind and can really enjoy your cabinet! 🙂

I find the discussion interesting but would like to add some nuance. Certainly, wall mounting is the primary factor for stability in furniture like PLATSA. However, the issues caused by uneven floors cannot be resolved by this alone. Especially with floors that have larger height differences (in bayram3’s case, up to 1.5cm (0.6 inches)), constant wobbling over time can lead to material wear or slight warping.

One possible approach is to use adjustable feet that can be precisely adapted to the floor. This can be combined with a thin, firm underlay that evens out irregularities—for example, custom-cut rigid foam boards or MDF sheets. It is important to ensure that the underlay does not slip.

The key is that the piece of furniture stands steadily on the floor and is securely mounted to the wall—both measures complement each other. Depending on the overall height difference, it may also be advisable to locally level or fill the floor, if possible.
