Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for a dresser-like storage solution similar to the IKEA Brimnes series. Specifically, I’m wondering if there are any relevant and high-quality alternatives to BRIMNES at IKEA that offer a good balance between design and value for money. Many appreciate the BRIMNES dressers for their practical storage space and clean lines. However, I am looking for something with comparable dimensions, perhaps with different storage options or material variations. Ideally, something a bit more robust or modern in appearance, without being too expensive.

Has anyone come across similar products at IKEA or can recommend options within the same price range? I would appreciate any tips or personal experiences.

I understand your concerns; I felt similarly because I’m not always fully satisfied with everything BRIMNES offers. Personally, I found the Malm series at Ikea to be a good alternative – it feels a bit more premium and has a different design, which remains simple and functional.

However, Malm is usually more expensive than BRIMNES, so keep that in mind. For me, it was important that the drawers operate smoothly and effortlessly, and Malm performed better in that regard. The dimensions are similar, but Malm dressers come in more variations and sizes, which adds flexibility.

I’m also wondering if it matters to you whether the furniture is made of solid wood or laminated material, or if you have any specific requirements in that area. That influenced a lot for me when considering alternative options.

If you’re looking for an alternative at Ikea, check out the Hemnes dressers. They are more solidly built and feature a real wood appearance. They are more expensive than the BRIMNES series but more durable.

Otherwise, FLISAT (for children's rooms) or Kullen (smaller dresser) offer options with different functions but less storage space. The choice depends on the intended use.

That is actually a good tip. I would like to add to it and go into more technical detail. The BRIMNES series is made from particleboard with a melamine coating, which keeps the price low and provides a fairly smooth, easy-to-clean surface. The HEMNES, on the other hand, is constructed from solid wood, mostly pine, which makes it more durable and stable but also somewhat more expensive.

An important aspect when comparing alternatives is the drawer slide system: BRIMNES uses plastic slides with stoppers, which are acceptable for the price but can wear out more quickly under heavier use. HEMNES uses metal rails, making operation smoother and increasing lifespan.

If your focus is on long-lasting quality, HEMNES is definitely the better choice. However, you may need to consider slightly different dimensions and design concepts since HEMNES is more compact and usually taller.

Other budget-friendly alternatives worth considering are the KULLEN or MALM series (technically similar to BRIMNES but with some different features).

Regarding design: BRIMNES follows a minimalist Scandinavian style, while HEMNES has a more traditional look with natural wood grain. This should also influence your decision.
