Hello everyone, I am currently planning the setup of my home office and would like to use a cabinet from the IKEA Platsa series. Since this system is very versatile, I am wondering about the best approach to plan the cabinet in a way that is both functional and space-efficient. Specifically, I am interested in which dimensions and modules work well together, how to optimally arrange the interior compartments for binders, electronic devices, and other office supplies, and what to pay attention to during planning in terms of stability and later assembly. Are there any proven methods or planning tips that can help reduce effort and achieve an efficient result? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

For planning an IKEA PLATSA wardrobe for the office, I recommend starting with precise room measurements, especially the maximum width, height, and depth. The PLATSA series offers flexible combinations of different modules with widths of 40 or 60 cm (16 or 24 inches) and various heights. For binders, which are usually 32 cm (13 inches) deep, a minimum depth of 40 cm (16 inches) is advisable, preferably 60 cm (24 inches) if more storage space for electronics is needed.

- Interior layout planning: Make sure to use height-adjustable shelves for variable spacing between compartments.
- For cable management, plan internal drill holes or ducts.
- Stability: Consistently use the wall mounts provided by IKEA, as the wardrobe may tip over otherwise.

The IKEA planning software or third-party tools can help with visualization.

In addition to Juan31: I would recommend defining the exact load capacity per compartment before selecting the modules. Filing cabinets require sturdier shelves than simple storage compartments. For heavy technical equipment, solid shelves or metal-reinforced elements are advisable.

Furthermore, the choice between doors or open compartments is crucial. Doors protect against dust, while open modules provide easier access, for example, for frequently used binders. PLATSA offers both options.

A tip: Combine closed and open sections to achieve a balanced appearance and functionality.

Thanks for the tip. I noted 40cm (16 inches) depth in my sketch because the room is limited. Does anyone see issues using PLATSA modules with 40cm (16 inches) depth, especially for folders? This concerns standard A4 hanging files and some thicker ring binders.

Which components within the PLATSA series would you recommend here? Does anyone use reinforcements for laptops or printers inside the cabinet?

For clear and stable planning of a PLATSA cabinet for the office, the following is important:

- Measure the room precisely and check the wall condition for mounting options.
- Modules with a depth of 40 cm (16 inches) are generally sufficient for binders, provided they are not too thick. For larger binders (over 8 cm (3 inches) spine thickness), a depth of 60 cm (24 inches) is better.
- For technical equipment, it is advisable to choose continuous base panels that can be connected using the PLATSA clip system. For higher loads, plan an additional central support.

I recommend using the IKEA PLATSA wall brackets and screws, as these significantly increase the overall stability of the construction. When assembling, pay attention to the order: if your room is narrow, consider disassembling large modules to install them through tight spaces.

Another tip: When installing the interior, pay attention to the height of the shelves—about 35 cm (14 inches) per compartment is suitable for hanging files and binders. Depending on the material, allow 2–4 cm (1 inch) clearance for potential expansions.

What cabinet height are you considering? A height of 192 cm (76 inches) is usually comfortable, but custom adjustments can improve space utilization.

For cabinets with a depth of 40cm (16 inches), PLATSA modules with a depth of 40cm (16 inches) are generally suitable. Always use wall mounting for heavier equipment. For technical devices, I use a depth of 60cm (24 inches), as otherwise there is not enough space and ventilation inside the cabinet.
