ᐅ How can I keep IKEA PLATSA furniture stable for the longest time?

Kija64Hello everyone,
I am planning to use my IKEA Platsa furniture as long and as stable as possible and am looking for tried and tested tips and tricks that go beyond the simple assembly instructions. I am especially interested in how to reinforce or maintain the furniture so that it does not wobble, warp, or fall apart despite frequent use and load.
What experiences have you had to ensure the long-term stability of the modules? Are there specific assembly techniques, better screws, reinforcements, or maintenance tips?
I look forward to your well-informed answers and advice!

The PLATSA series is designed as a modular system, which can lead to reduced stability in larger constructions. Therefore, I recommend:
- Using high-quality screws as replacements for the supplied ones if the originals seem weak.
- Installing additional corner brackets or metal angles for reinforcement.
- Adding a back panel made of sturdy particleboard to the furniture board to reduce shear forces.
- Regularly checking and, if necessary, tightening the connections after 3–6 months.
It is also important to ensure even loading of the interior compartments to prevent deformation of the side panels.

Also, it helps not to place furniture directly against exterior walls, which often release moisture – this causes wood-based materials to deteriorate faster.

Add a back panel made of sturdy chipboard to the furniture board to reduce shear forces. Thanks for the tip, that sounds reasonable. I wonder if it’s possible to cut the back panel yourself or if the pre-drilled hole pattern from IKEA assembly causes any issues.

Does anyone else have experience with caring for PLATSA? Should the surfaces be treated regularly, or is dusting enough? I want to develop an optimal maintenance plan.
