Hello everyone,

I am considering buying a Pax wardrobe system from IKEA, specifically the drawers with the locking mechanism. My main question is: how long does the locking mechanism of these Pax drawers typically last with normal use?

I am interested in whether this mechanism is durable over the long term or if it often experiences defects, wear, or reduced functionality, especially in households with heavy use. If anyone has been using these drawers for a longer period, a review of your experience would be very helpful.

Additionally, I would like to know if there are any known weak points, if and how the locking mechanism can be maintained, and which factors can significantly affect its lifespan.

Thanks in advance for your input!

In my experience, the locking mechanism lasts several years without any issues. It is important not to overload the drawers and to close them properly; this helps to avoid most problems.

Hey, I love the Pax drawers! 😃 I have been using mine for over 5 years now, and the locking mechanism still works like on the first day! Of course, sometimes you need to "adjust" it a bit, but overall it’s really durable. Don’t let that discourage you!

I have to say, the locking mechanism on Pax is really well designed 👌 At my place, the drawers have been running smoothly for over 3 years, and it actually feels like the more you use them, the easier they open. Of course, no guarantee, but with normal use, the part seems very durable.

Regarding the lifespan of the locking mechanism in Pax drawers, I would like to provide a more detailed response:

1. Material quality: IKEA uses durable plastics and metal springs for the locking mechanisms. This ensures high load capacity and long-lasting performance.

2. Mechanism: The lock operates with a spring and a click system. The key to durability is preventing debris or dust from accumulating, which could block the spring.

3. Practical maintenance tips:
- Regularly clean the mechanism with a duster or a fine brush to avoid buildup.
- Avoid overloading, as Aimee has already mentioned.
- At the first sign of sticking or catching, a small amount of silicone spray can help, though a maintenance spray that leaves no residue is preferable.

4. Typical wear usually occurs after about 5 to 7 years of intensive use. At that point, springs may weaken or plastic parts may slightly fatigue.

In summary, with normal use, the locking mechanism and drawers are quite durable and easy to maintain.

I have two points to add:

- A common cause of problems is improper use, such as overloading drawers or closing them roughly.
- Spare parts are usually available from IKEA for a long time in case something breaks.
