Hello everyone, I am about to replace the sliding doors of my Ikea Pax wardrobe because I want to change the design and the old doors no longer fit the room. However, I am wondering how the actual replacement process works. Specifically, I am interested in whether the doors can simply be removed, what tools or special steps are necessary, and if there are any particular adjustment options to consider when installing the new doors to ensure they operate smoothly and cleanly. Are there any common pitfalls to avoid? I have seen many instructions before, but none of them explain the topic thoroughly with advice on possible problems or the sequence of work steps. I would appreciate a detailed explanation based on practical experience.

Replacing the sliding doors on an Ikea Pax wardrobe is relatively straightforward if you follow the correct steps. First, clear the wardrobe frame to access the sliding tracks easily. To remove the old doors, gently lift the bottom rollers out of the track, then tilt the door slightly upwards and pull it forward to remove it. It’s important to avoid misaligning the doors to prevent damage to the frame or tracks.

When installing the new doors, ensure the sliding tracks at the top and bottom of the wardrobe frame are clean and undamaged. Next, hang the door at an angle—first engage the top, then place the bottom into the track. The locking mechanism or rollers must run smoothly within the guides to allow even movement. Most rollers or sliding door fittings have small screws or adjustment screws to fine-tune the door height and alignment. These adjustments are essential to prevent the doors from scraping or failing to close properly.

Generally, a screwdriver and possibly an Allen key are sufficient tools. The most important advice: work carefully and regularly check the smoothness of operation during installation.

Removing sliding doors on Pax wardrobes: lift up at the top, then lift out of the bottom track. To hang new doors: insert the top part first, then place the bottom in the track. Make sure the tracks are clean. You hardly need any tools; an Allen wrench or screwdriver is usually enough. Adjust the rollers if the doors stick or are misaligned.

Great topic! Replacing the Ikea Pax doors is not as difficult as some people think! 😄 The key is to be patient when removing them to avoid any damage. When hanging the new doors, be sure to test how smoothly they slide after adjusting—the feeling is just amazing when everything moves effortlessly! And don’t worry, with a bit of finesse, you’ll definitely manage it. Good luck with the renovation, you’ve got this! 🎉

First, the cabinet frame should be cleared to allow unobstructed access to the sliding tracks.

Exactly, this step is essential because many tasks become more difficult without free accessibility. Additionally, I recommend inspecting the tracks for dirt or damage before removal. It is also advisable to check the rollers, as faulty wheels can make re-hanging the doors more difficult later on.

The sliding tracks on the top and bottom of the cabinet frame must be clean and undamaged; then the door is hung at an angle – first the top, then the bottom is placed into the track.

Hanging the door in this order has proven to be standard and ensures the door is properly guided.

As a supplement: after hanging the doors, use the roller adjustment to align them. This is done via small screws on the inside to adjust height and spacing. This fine-tuning prevents jamming and greatly facilitates opening and closing.

As an addition: After hanging the doors, you should use the adjustment of the rollers to align the doors.

Thanks for the tip! Regarding the adjustment of the rollers – are the screws easily accessible without having to remove the door again? Or do you need to partially take the door off for that? This is important for me to know, as I would like to keep the effort involved as low as possible.

One more question: Is it advisable to thoroughly clean or even replace the tracks when doing a replacement, especially if they are already a few years old? How common is wear and tear on the tracks of the Pax sliding doors?
