Hello everyone, I have a specific question: I own an IKEA Brimnes bed with drawers, and unfortunately, some of the drawer fronts are damaged—cracks and chipped areas from daily use. My question is quite specific: How can I properly replace these damaged drawer fronts on the IKEA Brimnes without having to remove the entire drawer or the whole piece of furniture? Are there replacement parts available directly from IKEA, or do you need to replace the entire drawer? And most importantly, what is the actual process of replacing them—what screws or locking mechanisms should I be aware of? I look forward to any helpful tips and experiences!

The drawer fronts of the Brimnes are usually attached directly to the drawer box with 4 screws that you can access from inside the drawer, so after you have pulled the drawer out completely. You don’t need to remove the rails themselves. It is important to securely support the drawer while loosening the screws so that it doesn’t fall out.
You should be careful not to put stress on or bend the rail. Once the front is removed, you can screw the new replacement front in the same position. If you need a replacement: some IKEA stores still have spare parts available upon request. Otherwise, you may be able to obtain a used front through contacts.
Important: use the correct Phillips screwdriver and do not overtighten the screws, as the material is relatively thin.

Does anyone have experience with disassembly without causing permanent damage? This is exactly the crucial point I mentioned at the beginning. The rails are often designed to be quite delicate. One tip: Never forcefully pry off the front; instead, first remove all screws on the sides of the drawer.
The dampers or other mechanisms can be damaged if you pull the front off by force. If the front is stuck, you might lightly cool the area beforehand if needed – moisture can cause the furniture material to expand and affect the assembly.
It’s better to double-check the fastenings than to have problems later during reassembly.
Great to see so many helpful and practical tips gathered here! 🙂
I recently repaired a BRIMNES drawer myself. Using the right screwdriver and a good work light really helped when removing the front panel. Just slowly loosen the screws and gently pull off the front – it works perfectly!
Don’t be discouraged if it looks a bit tricky at first; in the end, you’ll have a nicely restored piece of furniture. Keep at it!

The dampers or other mechanisms can be damaged if the front panel is forcibly removed.I agree with this. Proper tools and techniques are essential. The slides use small plastic clips or metal guides that are not break-resistant. This is especially true for older models.
If you live near an IKEA store, try asking directly at the customer service desk. They often assist with spare parts or loan out tools specifically for these types of repairs.

Take comfort, even if it looks annoying for a short time, in the end you will have a nicely looking piece of furniture again.Exactly! 🙂
Besides the renovation: When you replace the front, you can also check the screws for rust or wear and replace them if necessary – this way you’ll have less trouble over time. Nothing is more frustrating than a loose drawer that constantly needs adjusting.
Thank you all for the detailed explanations! I will try carefully unscrewing and make sure not to damage the rails and mechanisms. One last question: Does anyone know the dimensions or order numbers for the BRIMNES drawer fronts, in case I decide to order replacements directly from IKEA? That would make searching and ordering much easier.
