Hello everyone, I have a specific question: I own an IKEA Brimnes bed with drawers, and unfortunately, some of the drawer fronts are damaged—cracks and chipped areas from daily use. My question is quite specific: How can I properly replace these damaged drawer fronts on the IKEA Brimnes without having to remove the entire drawer or the whole piece of furniture? Are there replacement parts available directly from IKEA, or do you need to replace the entire drawer? And most importantly, what is the actual process of replacing them—what screws or locking mechanisms should I be aware of? I look forward to any helpful tips and experiences!
The question is well formulated and can be answered fairly easily from a technical perspective. IKEA generally offers spare parts for many of their furniture pieces, but not always for individual fronts. Moreover, BRIMNES is a rather older model, which might limit availability.
My advice: First, check whether the fronts are sold separately by IKEA – this information is usually available on the IKEA website or in the catalog. If not, replacing the entire drawer will be necessary. An important point to keep in mind is that drawers are often fastened from the inside with screws; sometimes there are so-called clip fasteners or small metal brackets. The fronts are usually screwed to the drawer box. Knowing exactly how these fasteners work is helpful before removing any parts.

Additionally, I would like to add that IKEA typically provides an exploded diagram or assembly instructions for the BRIMNES range on their website or in the app. These include detailed guidance on how to replace drawer fronts or drawers.
If replacement fronts are not available, it is also possible to independently replace the entire box, although this is more complex. The screws are usually located on the inside of the drawer and can be removed with a screwdriver. Before doing so, the drawer should be fully pulled out of the furniture and handled carefully to avoid further damage.

A tip from personal experience: If you’re doing the work yourself, put all screws and small parts into a box. Taking apart drawers is not complicated. Removing the front panel usually just requires a few Phillips screws. 😊
Regarding replacement parts: IKEA can sometimes be a bit difficult, but a polite inquiry with customer service can work wonders. Alternatively, exchanging for newer drawers from the BRIMNES series might be an option – it can also be cost-effective.

Thank you for your answers!
@kasan: I actually couldn’t find individual fronts on IKEA’s online store – the model seems to be from the current range, but spare parts appear to be quite limited.
@draleo: I have the assembly instructions, but they mostly cover putting the unit together. Replacement or swapping parts is barely mentioned.
I’ve also noticed that the drawer fronts are attached from the inside with screws. My concern is whether the rails or other mechanisms could be damaged when removing the front. Does anyone have experience dismantling these without causing lasting damage? I’m a bit unsure if the rails need to be fully removed or if the front can just be taken off as is.
