pejo7Hello community, I am currently looking into which replacement parts are most commonly needed for Ikea Brimnes furniture, especially the dressers and beds. Since I know that certain components tend to wear out or get damaged over time in affordable furniture like Ikea’s, I am particularly interested in which parts typically fail or go missing. It would be helpful if anyone could share their experiences regarding the most common defects or wear parts—such as handles, drawer runners, screws, or other specific components. Does anyone have extensive experience or specific advice on what a BRIMNES owner should keep in stock to avoid having to replace the entire piece over minor damage?
Interesting question! I have a BRIMNES bed myself and can say that the clamp locks on the slatted frames eventually gave out. It happened pretty quickly, so it's worth keeping an eye on those small parts. The handles on the dressers also often don't seem as sturdy as expected – I would say these are minor weak points that don’t ruin the entire piece of furniture but can be annoying. 😉

Looking at the drawer slides, these are usually plastic and metal roller guides that wear out over time or can get clogged by dust and small particles. A long-term solution is to clean and lubricate the slides regularly. Additionally, the handles, while available in various designs, are often made of plastic or relatively thin metal, which explains why they break or become loose. Essential spare parts to keep in stock include:
- Drawer slides (runners)
- Handles for drawers and doors
- Screw sets for assembly and tightening
- For beds: slatted frame clamps
Screws naturally get lost or loosen — retightening them helps prevent major damage that can lead to material breakage. It is also important not to overload the drawers to avoid excessive pressure on the slides. How often do you use your BRIMNES pieces daily? Do you use the dressers intensively or more moderately?

How often do you use the BRIMNES items daily? Do you use the dressers heavily or more moderately? That’s a good question. I use the dressers every day, sometimes several times a day, since various clothing drawers are stored in the bedroom. The bed is, of course, also used daily, but I’m especially concerned about the slatted frame mechanism, as it contains quite a few locking and latching parts. The handles on my cabinets have been stable so far, but that’s probably because I handle them carefully. Still, I’m curious if there’s a particular weak spot in the drawer runners that is affected by seasonal changes or humidity?

is there a particularly vulnerable spot on the drawer slides related to the season or humidity?Yes, that's correct. Moisture can cause the MDF components to swell, which affects the slides. In damp rooms or with high humidity, the material can easily warp. Therefore, drawers should always be kept dry.
