Hello everyone, I am considering getting the IKEA Platsa system for my living room, but I am a bit unsure about the long-term maintenance and care. Specifically, I am interested in how durable the materials are in everyday use, how repairs or replacement of individual parts are handled, and whether there are any special care instructions from IKEA that should definitely be followed. Has anyone had experience with the longevity and maintenance of this system? I also mean technical aspects like tightening connections or replacing fittings. What problems have typically occurred, and how easy is it to resolve them? Thanks in advance!
I understand your concerns, as you want to be satisfied with your furniture in the long run. In my experience, the Platsa modules are prone to wear if you frequently rebuild them, meaning you shouldn’t take everything apart too often, or the joints will wear out faster. However, I still like the system because repairs are quite manageable. For example, we once had an issue with a hinge, and IKEA provided replacement parts, which was really helpful for us.
Interesting question. It is important to clearly differentiate what is meant by "maintenance." Platsa is an economical modular system with a particleboard core and laminate coating. These materials are more susceptible to moisture and mechanical stress than solid wood. Maintenance here mainly means careful handling to avoid damage.
I cannot fully agree with that, as it really depends on usage and assembly.
This is a good example of why maintenance also means using the furniture wisely and not relying solely on repairs.

Maintenance and care for IKEA Platsa can be summarized as follows:
- The materials mainly consist of particleboard with a plastic laminate surface, which is sensitive to moisture and mechanical impacts.
- It is advisable to regularly tighten the screws, as the plug-in and screw system can become loose under load.
- Spare parts such as hinges, runners, and cover caps are generally available from IKEA and can be replaced easily.
- The hinges do not require special lubrication, but a drop of silicone spray can help with noises.
- Surfaces are best cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent; avoid strong cleaning agents.
Overall, maintenance is manageable as long as the furniture is not overloaded and not subject to frequent rearrangements.

For example, if drawers are heavily loaded or the system is used as a room divider with high stress, it is advisable to regularly check whether the frames and connections remain secure.
