baonnarI plan to equip my new IKEA Platsa system with custom furniture handles and therefore wonder: Are there any suitable handles that work particularly well with the Platsa system?
I am not only referring to handles that match visually, but also in terms of dimensions, mounting, and ergonomics. Many Platsa modules have specific drill holes or attachment points, and I want to avoid buying handles that cannot be installed or do not provide enough stability during use.
Maybe someone has experience or knows specific models or brands that are compatible? Tips on alternative mounting options would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Most handles with a 128 mm (5 inch) hole spacing fit. This is a good initial guideline. Additionally, it’s important to know that the PLATSA system often features fronts that are 16 mm (0.6 inch) thick. Therefore, standard furniture handles with 32 mm (1.25 inch) or 64 mm (2.5 inch) hole spacing are usually not suitable.
The key factors are compatibility with the 128 mm (5 inch) spacing and the screw length. IKEA usually recommends short screws (30 mm (1.2 inch)), which are often included with the hardware. Metal handles with a flat profile are ergonomically ideal because they do not protrude too far from the furniture piece while remaining easily accessible.
Models made from stainless steel or aluminum are recommended for better durability. Plastic handles may wear out faster due to the stress they experience.
Furthermore, it’s worth measuring the drill holes precisely and testing the fit if possible.
Here are some practical tips for anyone planning to choose handles for the PLATSA system themselves:
- Always check the hole spacing carefully; it must be 128 mm (5 inches), otherwise the handle will not fit.
- Measuring the thickness of the front panel (usually 16 mm (0.6 inches) for PLATSA) is important to select the correct screw length.
- Pay attention to ergonomics: straight or slightly curved handles with a flat profile are easy to grip and take up minimal space.
- For installation: screws should not be too long to avoid protruding through the back.
- Material recommendation: aluminum or brass-colored metal handles match the modern look well.
A small tip: Some manufacturers offer special PLATSA-compatible handles with matching screws, which can make installation easier and are definitely tailored to the system dimensions.
I have installed some myself from a local supplier and can confirm that the additional investment is worthwhile if the handle fits well.

Are there any suitable furniture handles that work especially well with the PLATSA system? To be honest, the discussion could be approached from a different angle: IKEA offers a huge range of products, but hardly anything truly special when it comes to handles. Isn’t it strange that we are now specifically looking for "suitable" furniture handles, even though IKEA itself doesn’t offer many cohesive alternatives in its own range?
Besides, many users seem content to simply install standard handles that fit reasonably well. Why not have the courage to find creative solutions instead of sticking rigidly to supposedly "compatible" items?
I mean, why not use different screw holes or even skip handles altogether and opt for integrated grip grooves? The PLATSA system is modular – shouldn’t we focus more on functionality and individual style instead of thinking within prefabricated standards?
