Listu50Hello everyone, I recently bought some Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets and want to secure them safely against slipping on an uneven floor. The room where the cabinets are installed unfortunately has a slightly uneven screed, which causes the cabinets to be slightly unstable and move forward or sideways when loaded. My question is: What methods or tools do you recommend to reliably prevent Metod cabinets from slipping or tipping on uneven floors? I’m looking for sturdy solutions that are practical without having to fully level the floor. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hello Listu50, this is a very important topic because Ikea Metod cabinets can indeed become unstable quickly on uneven floors. Generally, Ikea offers wall anchors for the cabinets to prevent tipping, but additional measures are often needed to stop them from sliding on the floor. I recommend the following approach:
- First, use a spirit level to determine the greatest height difference.
- Then, adjustable base cabinet legs can be used to compensate for unevenness – Ikea also offers suitable legs for this purpose.
- To prevent sliding, you can place non-slip rubber or felt pads under the legs.
- Additionally, connecting the individual cabinets together is very important to form a stable unit.
- Sometimes, adding wooden floor stops fixed to the floor can be helpful, allowing the cabinets to be positioned against them.
What is the exact condition of the floor? Have you already tried using shims or leveling mats? That could be another option.

To prevent slipping, you can place non-slip rubber or felt pads under the feet.I would generally be cautious about that. Felt pads are mainly intended to protect the floor and often reduce grip, which can actually increase slipping. Rubber is definitely better, but my advice would be to deliberately use a combination of leveling and securing. Using only rubber or felt pads can sometimes make sliding easier. Therefore: adjust the leg heights, securely screw cabinets together, and additionally fasten them to the wall with suitable angle brackets. I consider a solution based solely on the floor to be insufficient.
Hello Listu50, I can understand the challenge with uneven floors well; this always requires a systematic approach. The important thing is that the Metod cabinets need to be stable against tipping, which is achieved by wall mounting, something Ikea has specifically designed for this series. To level the floor, using the adjustable feet is the standard method. For more uneven floors, I recommend also checking under the feet and, if necessary, placing flat plastic pads or small wooden shims underneath. A common solution is also self-adhesive anti-slip mats to improve grip. If you like, you can also install clamp strips fixed to the floor — this provides additional security against shifting. What is the floor material? Stone? Laminate? That also plays a role.
