LinneaniAre there any Ikea PAX wardrobes specifically designed for use under sloped ceilings, or at least available with suitable components or accessories to adapt them optimally to sloped ceilings? I imagine that a standard PAX wardrobe, which is usually rectangular and intended for rooms with regular walls, can only be used to a limited extent under sloped ceilings. So, are there prefabricated elements, angled or bevel cuts, or special planning tools from Ikea to make PAX wardrobes fit sloped ceilings? I am also looking for construction tips or user experiences on how others have approached this topic – for example, whether it is better to adapt by modifying side panels, trimming inside the unit, or using special wardrobe doors to make the best use of storage space under sloped ceilings.

The PAX system frame itself is standardized and does not include specific models for sloped ceilings. However, the wardrobe can be adapted to sloping roofs using several techniques:
- Using PAX corner units and side panels to bridge angled spaces
- Custom-sizing shelves or inserts to fit the slope
- Doors usually need to be cut externally, as Ikea does not offer doors specifically made for sloped ceilings
I also recommend using Ikea’s planning tools to optimally configure the interior space, especially for adjusting to angled surfaces. Additionally, the door and front service can provide custom cuts if the slope is minor.

Even with the PAX system, in my opinion, you can only be somewhat flexible when it comes to fitting a wardrobe precisely to very steep or irregular roof angles.

Does anyone have concrete experience with how the stability or appearance holds up in practice with such adjustments?

Marlenepa26 Dec 2022 10:04I planned and built a PAX wardrobe myself under a sloping ceiling. First and foremost: Ikea does not provide PAX components specifically cut for sloped ceilings, but the versatility of the system allows for adjustments.
- I purchased a standard-sized wardrobe and installed the side panels so they fit against the slope. This created a defined edge where I attached a custom-made trim.
- I cut the shelves to size after assembly to make the most of the available space.
- For the door fronts, I chose to use only fixed doors and had a carpenter create an angled trim piece to attach on top.
The result was visually good and functionally stable, but some craftsmanship skills or professional help should be planned. Without cutting doors or side panels, only minor modifications are possible. Ikea does not offer a dedicated solution for this.

In addition to the previous comments, I would like to add that Ikea now offers variable interior components for PAX, which allow for flexible organization of the interior space to better utilize areas under sloped ceilings.
- There are adjustable shelves, drawers, and hanging rods at variable heights.
- Additionally, open sections can be combined with custom-made panels or covers.
However, it is true that the modular design of the system is not specifically intended for sloping walls or pitched ceilings. The external shape of the cabinet boxes remains rectangular. For an optimal fit under angled ceilings, additional cutting and manual adjustments will be necessary.
Those who prioritize a perfect fit might therefore consider alternatives or a combination of PAX and custom solutions.
