Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to purchase an Ikea Pax wardrobe and want to make sure that the drawers come with a soft-close feature. My specific question is: Which Ikea Pax models come with soft-close drawers as standard, or which models have this feature built in by default?

I would greatly appreciate a list or any tips on how to identify this when buying, as it is not always clearly stated in the Ikea online shop or product descriptions. I am also interested to know if soft-close can be ordered separately and retrofitted.

Thank you very much for your expertise!

The soft-close feature in Ikea Pax drawers is not automatically included in all models. Generally, standard Pax drawers do not come with soft-close hinges; instead, they use simple roller or telescopic slides.

Here are some points for reference:
- The soft-close function is often available only with certain interior fittings, such as drawers with full extension and damped closing mechanisms.
- Ikea’s "Maximera" drawer system for Pax frequently offers soft-close as an option.
- Soft-close drawers are usually sold as accessory packages or included only in higher-priced variants.

Recommendation: When purchasing, pay attention to the terms "soft-close" or "damping" in the product description. If in doubt, ask directly at the store or check the assembly instructions.

Additional information: The Pax series itself is modular. This means that the base cabinets do not include a soft-close feature, which is only available with certain interior fittings like drawers with damped runners.

My tip:
- The "MAXIMERA" drawers often come with soft-close.
- The "VOXTORP" system, commonly used for fronts, also offers damped drawers that close softly.

Furthermore, retrofitting is possible for some drawers if compatible soft-close dampers are purchased separately and the drawers are compatible. It is worth comparing the exact product numbers.

MAXIMERA drawers in Pax wardrobes usually come with soft-close. Other standard drawers often do not. Retrofitting is possible, but only with compatible dampers.

To address the question more precisely, it is important to know that Ikea offers different drawer systems with various types of slides in the Pax series. The soft-close function is a mechanically integrated damping feature that prevents the drawer from slamming shut.

Detailed information about soft-close in Pax:
- "MAXIMERA" drawers come standard with soft-close damping. These drawers have damped full-extension slides, meaning they can be fully pulled out and close smoothly.
- However, there are also cheaper drawers without this damping, typically with simple roller slides.
- In the "VOXTORP" fronts, there are also drawers with integrated soft-close mechanisms.

Regarding retrofitting:
- Ikea offers separate damping units that can be added to older drawers, as the slides are compatible.
- It is important to check whether the existing drawer is prepared to receive the dampers; otherwise, installation is more complicated.

Question for you: Do you want to buy drawers with the soft-close feature already integrated, or retrofit existing systems? This greatly influences the answer.

Good question. I would prefer to have the soft-close feature included when buying the Pax drawers new, rather than having to retrofit it later. Ideally, I would like to get a specific model or product line from Pax where soft-close is standard. Retrofitting is less appealing at first since I want to avoid the extra effort.
