Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my kitchen with Ikea Metod and have a question about how to properly secure the countertop. Specifically, I want to know which fastening methods are recommended for the Metod countertop to ensure it stays stable and durable without wobbling or warping over time. Are there special screws or brackets that Ikea provides? Also, what is the best approach if I need to cut the countertop myself? Are there any precautions I should take to avoid damaging the countertop or compromising the fastening? I would appreciate detailed tips and experiences, especially regarding installation between the base cabinets and connecting the individual countertop sections. Thanks for your support!

Hello TARNON8,
Regarding your question: The Ikea Metod countertop is usually attached using special countertop clips. These clips are screwed from underneath into the cabinet carcass and hold the countertop securely in place. It is important that the screws are not too long to avoid drilling through the countertop.
- Common fastening materials include countertop brackets or mounting clips, which Ikea sometimes provides.
- It is essential to cut the countertop precisely, as clean edges improve stability.
- Individual countertop pieces should be joined with a connector clip, also known as a countertop connector, to prevent the pieces from shifting against each other.
Additionally, during installation, you should ensure the countertop is protected from moisture, for example by sealing the cut edges with a special sealant.
If you plan to cut the countertop yourself, I recommend using a fine-toothed saw and, if needed, a waterproof sealant.
I hope this helps!

The Ikea Metod countertop is usually secured with special countertop clamps.Exactly, that’s how it is! I installed my countertops myself last year and was really pleased with how stable everything turned out. The mounting clips are really impressive! 🙂
One more tip: definitely use the supplied connector fittings for joining the countertops. They ensure that everything fits tightly and securely.
And don’t be afraid of cutting! With a good circular saw and some patience, it’s quite manageable!

Screw the countertop to the cabinet from underneath using countertop clips.Someone explained this to me last week, and I’m wondering if it’s sufficient for my uneven subfloor. Is this method really stable, or is it more suitable for firm, level floors?
I’ve seen in other kitchens that countertops can start to wobble or come loose over time, even with clips. Does anyone have experience with how to ensure a long-lasting, secure installation? I don’t want to have to take everything apart again in six months.
Hello everyone,
I can understand tuFernando's point that stability is important. This is how I handled it with my Metod kitchen:
- Secured the countertops from underneath at regular intervals (about every 40 cm (16 inches)) using countertop brackets.
- Additionally, I sealed the edges of the countertops with silicone, which provides extra stability and protects against water.
- Where two countertop sections meet, I used the connecting fittings to lock the sections firmly together.
This makes the countertop extremely stable on the cabinets, and I haven’t had any issues with wobbling or warping so far. The most important thing is proper installation combined with using the parts recommended by Ikea.
Maybe this helps!
