Baukirill6 Jan 2017 09:17Hello everyone,
I have a specific question about repairing IKEA Brimnes drawers: Is there anywhere to find detailed construction instructions or step-by-step repair guides specifically focused on the mechanics and assembly of the drawers of this model?
I am mainly interested in fixing the drawers myself, as some of them stick or have slightly damaged sliding rails. I’m looking for help not only with disassembly but also with renewing sliding rails, screws, or targeted troubleshooting for warped parts.
Does anyone have experience or perhaps printed or digital guides that specifically cover these aspects?
Thanks in advance for your support!

Is there anywhere a detailed construction guide or step-by-step repair manual specifically tailored to the mechanics and structure of the drawers of this model? Hello Baukirill,
First of all: to my knowledge, there is no dedicated official IKEA repair manual for the BRIMNES model. IKEA typically provides assembly instructions rather than repair guides.
However, you can follow these steps to successfully carry out repairs yourself:
- Check screws and visible fittings, and tighten if loose
- Remove drawers: there are metal or plastic runners on the right and left sides of the cabinet that you need to carefully unhook
- Inspect the sliding rails: sometimes dirt or slight deformations cause sticking. You can sometimes realign the rails or smooth them with a small file
- Common replacement parts include handles, rollers, or entire runner assemblies. Make sure to use suitable parts from IKEA or alternative models with identical dimensions
A tip: taking photos while disassembling and reassembling helps a lot if you want to put the furniture back together correctly later.
What kind of damage do your BRIMNES drawers have exactly? Do they stick in a specific position or are parts broken? That would help to give more targeted advice.

to repair by hand the drawers that sometimes stick or whose slides are slightly damagedHey, that sounds like a DIY project with a bit of adventure! 😀
In my opinion, the BRIMNES drawers are quite sturdy, and with a little patience, you can quickly get the slides and drawers working smoothly again. The important thing is not to jerk the wood too much to avoid damaging any screws or fittings.
If you can’t find an official assembly manual, it’s best to take your own notes and carefully check step by step how the drawer comes apart and goes back together. And of course, a steady hand and a good screwdriver are your best friends here 😉 – this often saves you from having to buy a whole new drawer.

Photo documentation during disassembly and reassembly is extremely helpful if you want to put the furniture back together correctly later.I completely agree. Especially with IKEA furniture, taking things apart isn’t always straightforward. Additionally, I recommend storing all screws in small labeled containers during disassembly.
Regarding assembly instructions: As a supplement to the manual, you can often order replacement parts directly from IKEA if something is broken. There isn’t a specific “repair guide,” but if you clearly describe what is stuck or damaged, you can often get practical advice here on how to improve functionality or fix problems.
Which parts are damaged? Are they the plastic wheels, the drawer slides, or the screws?
