dulenHello everyone, I wanted to ask if there is a simple way to equip IKEA Besta doors with additional soft-close dampers.
My goal is to make the doors close more quietly and gently, since the original dampers feel a bit weak to me and are supposed to prevent slamming. I have already seen various solutions online, but most of them seem somewhat complicated or require special tools or drilling, which I want to avoid.
So, is there an easy solution, preferably without tools and drilling, that reliably achieves this effect? Maybe also some experience from people who have already done this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I once tried simple retrofit dampers that clamp inside without drilling. That works somewhat, but the holding strength is often not great. If you want to stay flexible, I would rather recommend dampers that can be retrofitted directly on the hinges – usually you just need a screwdriver, but no drilling.
How about your add-on parts made of plastic? The clips mentioned above can sometimes be suitable there.
Hello dulen,
I’m happy to contribute to this topic. Basically, there are two common approaches for IKEA Besta doors:
- Using integrated soft-close hinges from IKEA itself, which are often already included with new doors.
- Retrofitting external dampers that are attached either to the door or directly to the hinges.
Regarding the first option: If your doors don’t have soft-close hinges, I would check if you can simply convert them by replacing the hinges with soft-close models. This is the cleanest and most durable solution without much additional hardware.
For the second option, there are so-called damper clips (soft-close adapters) that can be retrofitted onto the hinges. Usually, you only need a screwdriver for this, not a drill. These clips are discreet and can also be removed again.
What you definitely need to consider with simple adhesive solutions is that adhesion on painted surfaces and long-term stability can be problematic, as doors move frequently and the mechanism needs to withstand quite a bit.
I hope this helps you a bit. If you want, I can also provide exact product names.

Is there a simple solution that works reliably without using tools or drilling?I’m in a similar situation; I didn’t want to leave any permanent marks on the doors. After some research, I found small dampers that can be attached with strong 3M adhesive tape. This actually works surprisingly well, although it depends on the door material.
It’s important to thoroughly clean the surface before applying the tape and make sure the damper is positioned exactly in the right spot; otherwise, it can rattle.
It’s not a perfect solution, but for me it’s a good temporary fix since no drilling is required and the door is reasonably protected.

I would also consider the mechanical stresses and potential shifting. A screwed connection is usually more durable and results in less loss of function.
Another question is how frequently the doors are used and how stable the entire structure needs to remain. A simple solution often involves compromises regarding longevity.
Has anyone had long-term experience with self-adhesive dampers on Besta doors?
