Hello everyone,
I would like to know how your KALLAX shelves hold up after several moves. Are your KALLAX shelves still straight, or do you notice over time—especially if they have been repeatedly disassembled, reassembled, and transported—that they warp or are no longer perfectly straight? I am particularly interested in experiences regarding stability and any long-term deformations caused by frequent handling. Thanks for your feedback!

"It is also important not to overload the shelf."Thank you for this tip! That was one of my assumptions – that over time, the load could cause slight sagging.
Regarding transportation: I always fully disassemble the KALLAX, pack the boards carefully to avoid scratches or warping, and store the boards flat. However, I would be interested if anyone has tips on how to best maintain the assembly and the joints to ensure they remain stable over the long term.
Does anyone have experience with aftercare treatments for the connection points?
Hello everyone,
I would like to share a few tips on how to keep KALLAX shelves as straight as possible after several moves:
1. The dowel connections are critical: If the connections are taken apart multiple times, the holes can become loose. Applying a bit of wood glue helps. Apply the glue into the recesses, insert the dowel, and let it dry.
2. Transport: Never store the shelves upright or carry them with heavy weight concentrated at one point. Store them flat to avoid deformation.
3. Assembly: When putting the shelves together, make sure all screws and panels are fixed at right angles. Sometimes using a square guide or a carpenter’s square is recommended.
4. Load: Make sure heavy items are distributed across multiple shelves. The more evenly the load is spread, the less sagging will occur.
Summary: If you follow these points, the shelves will stay relatively straight even after several moves.

It's interesting to see how carefully everyone handles the KALLAX furniture here 😄.
I think it's somewhat overrated – it’s an inexpensive piece made from simple materials, so it's understandable that the boards won’t stay perfectly straight after multiple assembly and disassembly cycles. If you don’t want that, you need to choose higher-quality furniture.
That's exactly the point. This issue can perhaps be optimized, but it can’t be completely eliminated.
My advice: stay relaxed, and if it’s a little crooked, it’s not the end of the world.

Good morning,
I would like to add that moisture can significantly affect the dimensional stability of KALLAX particle boards. If the boards are stored in a damp basement or an unconditioned space in the meantime, the material may swell slightly and can warp or bend.
This is especially noticeable on the surfaces if they are not properly protected. Therefore, it is advisable to store the furniture in a dry, well-ventilated area during and after a move.
Wishing everyone continued success in maintaining their shelves!

I can only agree with some of you – after several moves, my KALLAX isn’t exactly fresh anymore, but it’s still straight enough to be satisfactory. 😎
A tip for those who move frequently: it’s worth protecting the individual boards with a cover or blanket. Especially the boards with the drilled holes tend to develop slight warping if they rest on hard surfaces.
I’ve had good results by handling the dowels carefully; that definitely helps! But a bit of patience during assembly is also worth its weight in gold. 🙂

"It is an affordable piece of furniture made from simple materials, so it’s clear that the boards won’t stay perfectly straight after multiple assembly and disassembly cycles."This realistic assessment hits the mark. KALLAX is clearly designed for good value for money; the materials are sturdy but not at the level of solid wood.
Deformations remain limited as long as the furniture is handled carefully, but expecting perfect straightness after repeated use is unrealistic.
My recommendation: View the furniture as a functional system, and regular maintenance combined with careful transportation will ensure long-lasting usability.
