Hello everyone, I have a question and would like to hear your opinions: Do you think it makes sense to put the IKEA Kallax shelving unit on legs instead of placing it directly on the floor? I’m referring to those small wooden or plastic feet that you screw or stick under the unit to raise the furniture slightly. I’m mainly interested in aspects like stability, ease of use, cleaning, and appearance. Could placing it on legs also affect load capacity or the ability to slide something under the shelf? I’d really appreciate it if some of you who have tried this could share your experiences. Thanks in advance!

I recommend using feet if you want to keep the floor underneath clean and prevent the shelf from moving while vacuuming. Otherwise, it is stable directly on the floor as well.

That's brilliant, adding feet to the Kallax! 🙂 You instantly get more height and can easily sweep or mop underneath! Plus, I think it looks much more elegant right away!

From my experience, raising the Kallax shelf on feet can significantly make cleaning underneath the furniture easier. However, it is important to ensure that the feet are sturdy enough to safely support the load from heavy books or decorations. Cheap plastic feet may compromise stability. Additionally, raising the shelf slightly can reduce stress on floor damage, as the shelf does not rest on the entire surface.

Feet provide more clearance from the ground. If you don’t have much going on underneath, the effort is not worthwhile.

I felt the same way when I bought the Kallax. I wanted to make cleaning easier, especially with small children who often leave crumbs under the furniture. The legs really helped with that. However, at first, I underestimated how much it would change the overall look. It appears more modern and lifts the furniture off the floor – which I’ve grown to really like.
