Hello everyone, I am currently planning my new kitchen using the IKEA Metod system and want to design the kitchen layout to be as ergonomic and comfortable as possible. I am especially interested in how to best adjust the working heights, which cabinet combinations provide optimal freedom of movement, and any practical tips for using drawers and pull-outs to avoid unnecessary movements while cooking and cleaning. Does anyone have experience with planning kitchen layouts like this and can offer recommendations on what to consider to ensure long-term ergonomic comfort? Thanks in advance!
I designed my Metod kitchen so that the waste sorting bins are located directly under the countertop. This saves a lot of steps, and opening the fronts with convenient tip-on systems works very comfortably! My wife says it really improves the routine at the stove and sink ?.

The opening of the fronts with practical tip-on systems works very comfortably! The tip-on system is indeed a useful addition, especially for users who often have both hands occupied. It significantly facilitates access to drawers and cabinets. For ergonomic kitchen layouts, attention should also be paid to an even distribution of loads, for example regarding the placement of heavy appliances or supplies.
In general, I recommend connecting the stove and sink areas vertically with surfaces where you can cut or prepare food directly. This avoids unnecessary walking and awkward postures. With Metod, the working height is also crucial—if it is too low, it puts strain on the back and neck.

Another tip: Using tall cabinets with specialized interior fittings, such as carousels or pull-out doors, allows for better space utilization without unnecessary bending or stretching. That sounds interesting. I especially want to avoid the issue of bending down. Are there specific types of carousels or pull-outs that are particularly ergonomic? Sometimes I feel that carousels can be quite difficult to operate, and pull-outs might require more stability.
Carousel cabinets in IKEA Metod are ideal for making better use of corner cabinets due to their rotating tray inserts, but with cheaper mechanisms, they can actually be difficult to operate. For ergonomic use, I recommend opting instead for pull-out shelf systems, which are smooth-running and fully extendable. They allow direct access to the spaces without awkward reaching. Soft-close slides are also a must for quiet operation and user comfort.
Another ergonomic consideration concerns the height of wall cabinets in Metod kitchens. They are often installed too high, which can cause shoulder and neck strain when reaching for items. My recommendation: wall cabinets should be mounted at a height that can be reached without overstretching, or alternatively, equipped with lift-up or folding doors to make access easier.
