Hello everyone, I am currently looking into the best way to use the Ikea PAX system for storing a large volume of clothing. Specifically, I want to know how to adapt the modular structure of PAX to accommodate a wide variety of clothes while maintaining order, accessibility, and clarity. Which combinations of interior fittings, such as drawers, hanging rods, shelves, or baskets, work best? I am also interested in any practical tips for maximizing closet space without overcrowding the clothes. I look forward to your experiences and advice!

A precise question, thank you for that. From my experience, it is advisable to use a combination of several interior fittings for the PAX system. When dealing with large volumes, wide drawers are particularly suitable for foldable clothes, and multiple hanging rods at different heights work well for hanging garments. It is also important to consider the depth and height of the units – deeper wardrobes naturally hold more, but you should avoid choosing them too deep to keep clothes easily accessible. Baskets are good for accessories or smaller items but are not optimal for especially bulky clothing. Overall, it is recommended to organize storage space by categories to maintain effective order.

I agree with that. Additionally, I would like to highlight the importance of careful planning when it comes to interior fittings. For bulky clothing, height-adjustable hanging rods are especially useful to make the best use of space. It is advisable to hang items such as thick sweaters or winter coats to prevent creasing and compression. Shelves are ideal for lightweight and stackable clothes like T-shirts or jeans. Another tip: combining doors with mirrors not only saves space but also enhances the functionality of the dressing area.

Hey, I find this discussion really interesting and wanted to add a more casual approach. 🙂

The PAX modules are like Lego for adults – you can get really creative with them. When dealing with a lot of volume, it helps a lot not just to fold clothes traditionally but also to roll them sometimes, so you can fit more and keep everything organized.

Also, using fabric-lined baskets makes things look much neater, and you can grab items quickly. I even attached a few hooks to the inside of the doors, for example, for scarves or belts. This way, the main storage space stays free for the bulkier items.

Of course, organization is key, but having a bit of fun while arranging things never hurts!

That sounds like a practical idea I hadn’t considered before. Do the doors of the PAX system provide sufficiently sturdy surfaces for that? Are additional drillings or special hooks needed, or are there official Ikea accessories designed for this purpose? I’m imagining that this could make the storage space inside the wardrobe more efficiently used.

Using the Inside of Doors with Ikea PAX:

1. The doors are generally sturdy enough to hold light to medium weights.
2. Ikea offers specific interior accessory sets like "TJUSIG" or "SKUBB" that can be attached, which are also ideal for smaller items.
3. To install your own hooks, appropriate drills and anchors are needed – it is important to check the door material (usually MDF with a laminate surface).
4. Tip: For heavy items, it is better to avoid mounting on the door to prevent strain on the door hinges.

Summary: The inside of the doors provides useful additional storage space but should not be overloaded. Official accessories usually offer the best solution without causing damage.
