Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of securely mounting the baseboards of my Ikea Metod kitchen system and aligning them neatly with the cabinet carcasses. The problem I have is twofold: first, the usual included clips and screws feel too unstable and are sometimes difficult to install perfectly straight. Second, I want to avoid the baseboards sitting crooked or leaving unattractive gaps between them and the cabinet carcasses, which is especially problematic on uneven floors.
Does anyone have tips or proven methods for fastening Metod baseboards firmly without compromising the appearance? Are there alternative mounting systems or tricks to improve the fit, especially when the floor or cabinet edges are not perfectly straight?
I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Could you say a bit more about "mounting rails or metal profiles"?Mounting rails are mainly used to create a straight and stable base for baseboards when the floor is uneven. You fix the rail to the floor with anchors or screws, and it then serves as a level surface.
You can simply clip or attach the baseboards to this rail. This ensures proper alignment, and the baseboards sit securely and fully supported even on uneven floors.
For aesthetic adjustments, I recommend:
- Using small plastic or wooden trim pieces as covers instead of permanent silicone sealant.
- Carefully smoothing the joints with fine sandpaper.
- Cutting the baseboards precisely to the existing measurements to minimize gaps.
Alternatively, there are baseboards with integrated adjustment functions if you need more flexibility.

Level uneven floors using precisely cut wooden wedges.Exactly! That’s what I did, and it worked perfectly. You definitely don’t want your beautiful floor to end up looking like it has a toothache if the baseboard is wobbling 😄
A quick tip: paint the wedges in the same color as the baseboards. If any part becomes visible, it hardly shows. And yes – patience during installation really pays off. For me, it made the difference between "meh" and "wow."

For a truly durable solution, it is better to create some kind of substructure or leveled base on which the entire kitchen is then installed. This is more complex and not always practical, but more sensible in the long run if the baseboards are to align seamlessly with the kitchen.
