Hello everyone, I’d like to start a discussion on the topic “Ikea Metod: How can I optimize the installation of baseboards?” I am currently facing the challenge of mounting the baseboards on my Metod kitchen base cabinets efficiently and securely. My main concern is to design the installation process so that the baseboards are firmly attached, properly aligned, and can still be easily removed if needed, without causing any damage to the cabinets or tiles. What experiences have you had with this? Are there any proven tips or tools that make the assembly easier? How do you handle alignment, fasteners (e.g., clips, screws, adhesives), and finishing touches when dealing with uneven surfaces, for example? I look forward to constructive advice and maybe also some warnings about common problems to avoid during installation.
I have found 2–3mm (0.08–0.12 inch) thick felt, which I bought as furniture pads in hardware stores, to be very effective. They work well on uneven floors, are easy to cut, and do not fray at the edges. I have only used screws in exceptional cases; clips are usually sufficient.
About screws: If you use them, be sure to pre-drill first and use short, thin screws. The Metod base cabinets are not very solid, so this helps prevent damage. If clips do not hold, also check the attachment of the clips to the wall or plinth – often the issue is due to insufficient preparation there.

If you install baseboards on uneven floors, you can use thin felt or foam strips at the fastening points – this compensates for slight irregularities and ensures better hold.I still find this a very practical tip. Especially for minimal deviations of 1-2 mm (0.04-0.08 inches), this seems like a good solution. I also wanted to ask whether you generally recommend attaching the baseboards before or after the countertop is installed? Are there any experiences regarding safety and handling?

BASTIANTI5 Feb 2017 08:33I always install the baseboards only after the countertop is in place! This way, you can be sure that nothing gets damaged during installation, and it’s easier to make small adjustments. But be careful to measure the gaps precisely so everything fits perfectly later on! Just stick with it, it’s fun! 🌟
I understand that you have a lot to consider, olivier. At first, I was also worried about the baseboards and was afraid of installing them incorrectly or damaging them. For me, it helped to plan the installation in stages and to align the boards with slight tension. If you like, I can share my mistakes with you so you can avoid them!

Would you say that misalignment of the baseboards was the main issue? Or were there more problems with fastening or stability? Any small detail would be very helpful to me.
