Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of the baseboards for my Ikea Metod kitchen project and am wondering about the best and most durable way to fix the Metod baseboards. The standard installation instructions are quite basic, and I would like to know which methods or tools you would recommend to ensure that the baseboards remain securely in place over time and can easily withstand everyday stresses, such as cleaning, bumps from the vacuum cleaner, or similar. Are there any tips or special anchors, screws, or adhesives that work particularly well? I look forward to your experiences and opinions, as stability and long-lasting quality are very important to me.
Let's be honest: who really needs screws? I mean, Ikea offers clips or something like that, which are supposed to make assembly easy. But sturdy? No! The clips are quick to put together, but that’s a different kind of robustness. In my opinion, if you want to be safe, you either screw or glue. Everything else is just toy-like pseudo-assembly that can’t even withstand a robotic vacuum.
I fixed my Metod baseboards with small brackets, which I also screwed to the underside! This provides excellent extra support and feels really sturdy. The installation is simple, and the screws are hardly visible afterwards. For me, this is the best solution if you want not only a quick but also a long-lasting secure fix.

Who needs screws anyway? I think Ikea offers clips or something like that, which are supposed to make assembly easy. But sturdy? No way!Fully agree! Clips are fine if you want a quick fix, but for long-term stability you need more. Screws and/or adhesive are, in my opinion, essential—especially in kitchens, where there’s moisture and stress. Not to mention the vacuum cleaner test! 😁

On smooth floors, a small amount of mounting adhesive on the back of the baseboard ensures better adhesionThanks for the tip, that’s an interesting point for me. I have a rather smooth vinyl floor below, so adhesive might actually be useful. In combination with screws, do the baseboards really hold that well? Are there any recommendations for specific mounting adhesives suitable for wood and vinyl floors? And how about removal if access behind the baseboards is ever needed?
