Hello,

we have purchased a newly built semi-detached house with 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft).

I wanted to ask which furniture stores in NRW you would recommend for us.

We want to renew or buy new furniture for the entire interior.

Which furniture stores can you recommend?

The furniture should meet the following criteria:
- good quality, "high-end"
- aesthetically pleasing
- durable
- easy to assemble (no drilling, just screwing together)
- prices should be affordable for an average budget

So, nothing cheap like Poco or Roller, but also not extremely expensive.

All the “mainstream” furniture stores.

Furniture from the store that you can assemble yourself? Self-assembly is usually more the level of Ikea and similar brands.

What does “average” budget mean for you?

I was thinking about the following furniture stores

Ikea, Zurbrügge, and Ostermann

What do you think of these stores? Have I missed any good ones?

@nordanney Are the furniture pieces usually delivered with assembly included?

By "normal budget," I mean mid-range furniture—not very expensive designer pieces and not cheap low-quality stuff from Poco or similar.

We got a lot of furniture from Höffner.

If you want good quality, they are generally delivered mostly assembled. There’s no DIY assembly like with Ikea. Personally, I don’t really consider Ikea a furniture store and would only see it as an absolute last resort or for pieces just to fill space. Exceptions are Pax wardrobes (which aren’t cheap either) and Metod kitchens (if you’re fine with the limited options and assembling yourself). Otherwise, stores like Poco and similar aren’t far off in quality.

Apart from Ikea, I haven’t assembled furniture myself in almost 30 years. I wouldn’t have even thought that quality furniture stores offer self-assembly options 😎

Ostermann and Zurbrüggen are suitable options.
Also Höffner or XXXLutz, Hardeck, Uni-Polster (for couches etc.), and local furniture stores (for example Rüsen and Dvorack near me – but every city typically has some).
There are also many smaller regional suppliers specializing in certain areas, like solid wood furniture, bedroom sets, or other specific categories.

The furniture stores themselves are not really decisive. Apart from Segmüller, the major ones do not manufacture their own products. What matters more is which manufacturer produces the specific piece, the quality, and at which retailer you can get it at the best price.

"Smart Furniture Buying: Recognize and Compare Quality, Get the Best Price"

We found our dream furniture at the Red Chair and were able to beat their price by 15%, even compared to XXL and Höffner with their x% promotions.
