Hello,

we have purchased a newly built semi-detached house with 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft).

I wanted to ask which furniture stores in NRW you would recommend for us.

We want to renew or buy new furniture for the entire interior.

Which furniture stores can you recommend?

The furniture should meet the following criteria:
- good quality, "high-end"
- aesthetically pleasing
- durable
- easy to assemble (no drilling, just screwing together)
- prices should be affordable for an average budget

So, nothing cheap like Poco or Roller, but also not extremely expensive.

It comes from psychology and describes the phenomenon where the brain rationalizes conflicting beliefs in a way that you don’t even notice yourself.

You actually don’t want to spend that much money on a piece of furniture. You want a piece that you like, but it’s expensive.

So naturally, it has to be of higher quality, and all the other, cheaper furniture was much worse.

I would bet that one or two of the cheaper pieces would have lasted at least seven years anyway.

And that’s exactly what I don’t believe. If you read carefully, the purchase of the expensive lowboard was not driven by simply “liking” it. We have seen many beautiful items that we liked visually much more for significantly less. The workmanship is just poor. When I touch and use the display model and then notice that everything wobbles and rattles, that the veneer has the quality of paper and is warped, then that’s money wasted.
The point is, it’s not just supposed to last seven years. It should look like new after seven years and last 20 to 30 years.

The great thing about the brain is that it cannot always distinguish between before and after. By the way, this is not just psychological theory but is supported by neurological studies.
But let’s end this off-topic discussion now, or we might get kicked out for spam.

Now that we’ve found our house, I want to focus on good quality but without paying a premium just for the "brand"—just reasonable prices for the quality.

The advice has already been given: go out, visit stores, and take a look. Maybe first have a glass of wine and think about which style you like. For example, you could also buy some home magazines. There, like on Pinterest, you can get inspiration and also tips on purchasing.
So: go out, touch, compare quality.
And sometimes forget the price. There’s no rule that a table costing between 1500 and 2000 is always high quality and worth buying. A 500€ (about $540) table can look nice, and a 2000€ (about $2150) table can look awful. If the good 1000€ (about $1075) table starts to wobble after 10 years, you just tighten the screws. If you don’t like it anymore or it’s worn out, there’s always eBay for that.
I wouldn’t buy a book or...

We’re looking for furniture that looks timeless and elegant.
For example, white furniture with wood accents.

I can’t relate to that at all… and I’m quite open when it comes to interior design 🙂
The latter reminds me of Scandinavian style. But Scandinavian is not elegant. For me, elegant would be English style or polished antiques, which tend to be more brown and wood-heavy...
The latter—white with wood—is more like IKEA…
I really can’t picture you in a store at all. How do you live now?

What nonsense do I have to read here again, unbelievable…

…and these exact pieces of furniture are available as bargains 😀
If you had actually read the thread, you would have noticed that the original poster’s requirement is for good value for money with high quality when purchasing furniture from a not further specified shopping list with a budget of up to 40,000€ (about 43,000 USD). There is certainly reason to expect options above the bargain range.

We have budgeted approximately €30,000–40,000 (about $32,000–43,000) for the interior furnishings.

We are simply having trouble figuring out which furniture manufacturers offer good quality at a reasonable price, or where we should start our search.

I would also suggest contacting a carpenter or similar craftsperson. Our next living room furniture will most likely come from one of them.
