ᐅ Cabling for access points: choosing the correct network cable

Hello everyone,

Last week, I went through our terraced house with the electrician and shared all my requests, including where the access points should be installed in the future.

I was thinking of using Unify Nano devices, and it is important to me that the power is supplied via the network cable at the ceiling.

Now I am wondering if I should have a special cable installed, or if it doesn’t matter for the power supply as long as it is a network cable.

Thank you very much in advance.

Can someone perhaps explain how power is delivered over PoE through the cable to the access point, and which device supplies power to the cables?
I’m also interested in this!

Additionally, how much will the three extra connections approximately cost you?

The connections themselves aren’t expensive, about €35 net per connection. In the end, it’s the total amount that adds up... you just have to consider what you really need and what you don’t. For us, the extra requests quickly added up to €5000.

Wow, what a bargain 😀 Assuming the cable, outlet, and patch panel each include installation.

35 EUR?! 🤨 Either the electrician can’t do the math, or they’re only charging for the cable – or something is off. For 35 EUR you can’t even install that kind of connection with standard bell wire, and the material hasn’t even been installed or inspected yet.

You are right. I got the sockets mixed up. The price is €69 net. Sorry for the confusion.

Still a very fair price. Now he (the electrician) just needs to do a proper job 😉
