Bertram10019 Feb 2018 07:52Hello!
I need to submit the electrical plan for a new apartment. A standard UTP connection is included. The electrician has planned this connection in the living room. What is this connection used for?
I will have wireless internet and no television.
Can anyone help me with this cable? Should I possibly plan for several connections?
Thanks in advance for your tips :-)
Oh, and the internet router is planned to be located in the utility room. The apartment is 90m2 (970 sq ft).

According to Wikipedia, this is the general term for twisted pair cables = LAN cables.
You should probably run one from the utility room to the planned TV area and possibly another one from the utility room to a place where you might want to use a fixed LAN connection in the future, such as the two bedrooms. Ideally, use Cat 7 cables right from the start, equipped for the future.

Bertram10019 Feb 2018 08:29Thank you for your reply. What is a fixed LAN connection needed for? For a network printer or something like that, for example?

Bertram10019 Feb 2018 08:44Sorry, Malz1902. I don’t understand anything in your post. What is an access point, what is a NAS, what is a Pi, and which device are you referring to?
Everyone, I’m asking this question here because I’m not familiar with technology. I’m not experienced and, compared to others, I have very outdated technology at home (my laptop is 10 years old). I just can’t follow posts like Malz’s. It would be great if someone could explain all this a little bit.

Access point = AccessPoint. If your router is located in the utility room and you are sitting in the living room, your Wi-Fi signal might be barely sufficient, depending on how many walls and the distance between them. To improve your Wi-Fi, you can connect an AccessPoint via a network cable at certain locations. The best place for an AccessPoint is usually on a ceiling, for example in a hallway.
A NAS is a network storage device where you can save data.
