Thank you for your assessment.

I wonder what the electrician intended with that. The house is less than two years old. What purpose could that serve?

Ultimately, I don’t necessarily depend on it. The Wi-Fi coverage in the house is not bad. Since the cables are positioned as if they should or could be connected, I had assumed that a short-term improvement might be possible there.

To be honest, you need to ask your developer. I think the electrician only did what the developer wanted.

You mentioned that the Wi-Fi is fine on one side, but you want some improvements. What kind of improvement do you have in mind?

I guess they just order a certain number of outlets per floor and call it a day. Then the lighting electrician shows up with no knowledge of ICT, has heard something about Cat 7 cables, and just wires them to the a/b terminals of the telephone sockets – as a daisy chain, of course.

Well, I have a Wi-Fi connection throughout all areas of the house. However, the signal weakens upstairs and out into the garden. That’s why I thought this multitude of cables must serve some purpose, and I assumed I could use the sockets to create a LAN connection in other rooms if the cables are simply connected. However, if this involves complex measures such as pulling new cables or similar, I probably wouldn’t do (or have done) it at the moment. I have already been able to improve the signal using Powerline adapters. Therefore, under the current circumstances, there is no urgent need for action.

From my amateur assumption, it seemed that the cables “just” need to be connected and would have a specific use.

That is not a layman’s assumption; it is simply the truth. Each of these cables creates a connectionoption. But first, you don’t want to use all options, second, the installer doesn’t know which ones will be selected, and third, to connect you obviously need something to connect to.

It may be true that the installer does not know what will be done with it later, but choosing a JYSTY cable instead of a CAT cable still doesn’t make sense.

How much more does a CAT cable cost? At most about 0.5€/m (0.5 USD/ft), probably less.

They even went to the effort of wiring the rooms in a star topology, which is enough for a minimal LAN setup. Unfortunately, old cables from the last century were used. I don’t understand why the building technicians aren’t more on top of this. It could be marketed as future-proof.
