What do you like most? Why?
For us, the perfect house
What do you not like? Why?
We like everything; that’s why I’m asking here—maybe we have overlooked something.
Price estimate according to architect/planner:
Cannot say. Father-in-law and brother-in-law have their own company. The house will be a timber frame construction done entirely by ourselves. We can install electrical wiring ourselves. We can pave the yard ourselves. Drywall and jointing ourselves, etc. So, a lot of self-labor.
Personal price limit for the house, including equipment:
Preferred heating technology:

If you had to give up, which details / expansions
- could you give up: Ideally none
- could you not give up:

Why did the design turn out the way it is? For example:
Standard design from the planner?
Which wishes were implemented by the architect?
A mix of many examples from various magazines...
What do you think makes it particularly good or bad?

In general, all the criticism. Regarding size and layout, all rooms are acceptable, right? Yes, the children's bathroom is a narrow space. You should be glad to have one. The storage room is also narrow, I suppose. Shelves and a cabinet will be placed on one side—that’s it. Why does the room have to be rectangular? It’s just a storage room.

Honestly, most children would be happy to have an extra bathroom.

They’ll be thanking you profusely.

In 2018, he already came up with somewhat more realistic figures, but still that megalomaniac “it’ll all fit” attitude. That’s when I thought he must have run out of his medication.

Definitely not 1 million, at most half; we’ve already completed projects roughly of that scale.

I find it baffling that the discussion continues after this statement.

There’s no way to help someone with a floor plan and budget like that...

But it is certainly entertaining, I have to admit.

Was there something back in 2018 as well?

Fundamental question: If everything is perfect, why are you asking? You say you want to know if you’re overlooking something. But actually, you don’t want that. I agree with Pagoni—build your bargain house and that’s it.

Because some people need that confirmation. They don’t listen—or if they do, only to themselves. They speak entirely positively, have “can-move-mountains, everything’s-possible” and “what doesn’t work, we just make it work” hormones inside them.

I might go to an architect to share my wishes and see what comes out of it. I ended up with this floor plan because I wanted a dining room with a large dining table, a suitably spacious living room, and a large kitchen. The rest I just added somehow, based on the room sizes. I’ll get back to you once the plans have been revised.

But some of the talk here about being delusional with sizes is really unnecessary. Just because some people can’t afford to build bigger. I know people who have almost 100 square meters (1,076 square feet) of living and dining space. Just because most people here have their standard 40 square meters (430 square feet).
