Hello everyone.
A new neighbor in our development is installing their gas boiler and hot water tank in the uninsulated attic.
In other words, they have a cold roof, just like us.
They said they will build an insulated “box” around the equipment.
Is that possible? If so, it could be an idea for us as well! What should the wall construction of this box be like to ensure effective insulation?
Has anyone here had any experience with this?

If I had to pull out a retractable ladder every time I wanted to iron, carry the laundry up there, and then carefully fold it back down afterwards... I would never iron. Oh wait, I don’t iron anyway...
Seriously, a proper staircase really makes a big difference—I hadn’t thought of that. Still, I would use the attic as storage space and insulate it. Only items that I don’t need access to often would go up there. The often-mentioned Christmas decorations, for example.

Phew, sorry, but before I carry those things up a folding attic ladder, I’d rather do it in the garage. There is a huge difference between a fixed ladder and a telescoping one, especially when it comes to the ceiling opening. You really thought this through and did it smartly, but it might not be suitable for everyone.
As a general storage space, yes, but not for regular use like a basement with a retractable staircase. I’m sure about that.

On Monday, we have a construction meeting with the plumber. We will discuss whether to install the heating and ventilation system in the attic. The fact that this can be worked out directly between you and the system installer suggests “building without detailed plans” – this is not necessarily the case, but it can lead to a very abrupt and chaotic process. Let’s hope for the best.

Let's hope for the best. Don’t always assume the worst! There is also site management involved, who stays informed about all agreements in between...
