Hello everyone.
A new neighbor in our development is installing their gas boiler and hot water tank in the uninsulated attic.
In other words, they have a cold roof, just like us.
They said they will build an insulated “box” around the equipment.

Is that possible? If so, it could be an idea for us as well! What should the wall construction of this box be like to ensure effective insulation?

Has anyone here had any experience with this?

And nothing would mold either if I sealed the foil to the sheathing...

I would be concerned about mold if a lot of warm and therefore moist air from the upper floor reached the unventilated attic. However, I do not see that happening here.

Exactly. The ceiling is insulated and airtight. Therefore, the attic is essentially self-contained.

To summarize: 160mm (6.3 inches) insulation batts, vapor barrier membrane, roof battens and sheathing boards, adhesive tape for the overlaps, a few cartridges of membrane adhesive, two people, two days.

That's how it looks! Thanks for your help.

Pictures and a report on the experience once it is finished.
