Hello everyone.
A new neighbor in our development is installing their gas boiler and hot water tank in the uninsulated attic.
In other words, they have a cold roof, just like us.
They said they will build an insulated “box” around the equipment.

Is that possible? If so, it could be an idea for us as well! What should the wall construction of this box be like to ensure effective insulation?

Has anyone here had any experience with this?

That is not allowed. The heat source must be within the thermal envelope.

Is this regulated by the energy-saving ordinance? Or who decides this?

It doesn’t really matter whether the Energy Saving Ordinance covers this or not; just imagine having minus 15 degrees Celsius (5°F) outside in winter. That gives you a rough idea of how cold your unheated attic space is. And you’re supposed to have a functioning boiler installed there? I don’t know about that... Especially since almost all technical devices have an operating temperature range, including your boiler. And it definitely won’t be designed to operate between -15 and +50 degrees Celsius (5°F to 122°F)...

Yes. In our energy-efficient house, it was exactly like that and worked perfectly for decades.

I am hopeful that the boiler itself will generate enough heat to maintain the room temperature.
