Hello everyone.
A new neighbor in our development is installing their gas boiler and hot water tank in the uninsulated attic.
In other words, they have a cold roof, just like us.
They said they will build an insulated “box” around the equipment.
Is that possible? If so, it could be an idea for us as well! What should the wall construction of this box be like to ensure effective insulation?
Has anyone here had any experience with this?

Well, that is of course mandatory!Yes, the owner really let a lot slide here. But it was never intended as a rental property, only for personal use, and you can tell. I'll only be here until the end of the year, and hopefully then it will be moving into the house.Nordlys schrieb:
This is a worst-case scenario, and having the boiler in the ground floor utility room is definitely better.
Regarding the membrane: apply a generous continuous bead of this membrane adhesive onto the boards. The bead should be seamless. That way, it will be airtight enough. But if I just stick the membrane onto the tongue-and-groove boards, air could still get behind the membrane... So it wouldn’t be completely airtight then...
Basically, yes. However, if a climate membrane is really used together with the vapor-permeable underlayment, it is rather uncritical.
Nevertheless, I would still stick it to the masonry, or apply it in a way that no cold air can flow behind it. (with or without h?)
But seriously... It’s just an attic with heating... The only important thing is to prevent any mold growth.
