Hello everyone,

we are planning a single-family house of about 140m² (1507 ft²). We have been recommended an air-source heat pump from Valliat. We do not have a basement, and the utility room is 8m² (86 ft²). The heat pump with the water storage tank takes up about 4m² (43 ft²).

It would be possible to install the heat pump in the attic (the ceiling is concrete). Is this efficient enough? Or is the connection to the outdoor unit too far away?

The system is: air-to-water heat pump geoTHERM VWL S

We also have an air-source heat pump, but it doesn’t take up much space, even with the water storage tank. Our utility room is just under 9 m² (97 square feet) in size. Although Vaillant is not exactly a brand to recommend. I have already read about issues with Vaillant.

Using the attic might work; just ask a heating/plumbing technician...

We are currently considering the option of installing heating in the attic as well; it would be interesting to find out if this can be done without much effort.

First of all, you should consider what happens if the heating system develops a leak and starts losing water. Everything will run from top to bottom. That is why utility rooms should always be located on the ground floor.

Hi,

There are special catch basins made of plastic where the heating system or water storage tank can be placed. Similar to a shower tray!

Only an additional drain needs to be installed.

4m² (43ft²) of space????? Are you sure it’s not 4m³ (142ft³)?
I’ve never seen such a huge air heat pump before!
Oh, and the piping from the "fan" to the unit costs a lot of money, just as a heads-up.
