Hello everyone,
I am currently considering whether installing a magnetic door catch for the doors on the KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA is really worthwhile. My goal is to achieve a more stable and, above all, quieter closing without having to completely replace the doors. Has anyone had experience with the magnetic door catch? I am especially interested in how well it holds, whether the installation is really that easy, and if the durability meets expectations.
Are there perhaps any drawbacks that are not immediately obvious? For example, whether the magnets lose strength over time or if there are issues with the doors not closing fully by accident. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

From a practical perspective, magnetic catches for KALLAX doors offer a straightforward solution to improve functionality. They help prevent the doors from unintentionally staying open and enhance the closing sound.
Installation is simple, typically involving small screws or adhesive pads. It is advisable to adjust the position of the magnet to ensure consistent closing force. Studies on similar products have not shown any significant decrease in magnetic strength over time.
Also important is regular inspection with frequent use, as mechanical stress can have an impact in the long term.
I am happy to provide more detailed technical information if needed.

With the correct alignment, there are no issues, and the doors aren't pulled too strongly. Thanks for the tip. Did you use any specific technique during installation to adjust the closing aid so that it holds securely but doesn't pull too hard? I’d also be interested to know if it’s possible to test the door closure before fully tightening the screws.

whether it is possible to test if the door closes properly before fastening it permanentlyYes, definitely. I initially fixed the closing aids temporarily with tape and tested the door multiple times. This way, I could determine the optimal position precisely. Only when everything fit well did I screw the magnets in place. It is also advisable to make small marks to easily find the position again in case you want to adjust it later.

whether the magnets will eventually lose strengthI can only speak from my own experience: after almost a year, I haven’t noticed any weakening of the magnets. If you buy a product of good quality, it will definitely last a long time.
