Hello everyone,
I am currently considering whether installing a magnetic door catch for the doors on the KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA is really worthwhile. My goal is to achieve a more stable and, above all, quieter closing without having to completely replace the doors. Has anyone had experience with the magnetic door catch? I am especially interested in how well it holds, whether the installation is really that easy, and if the durability meets expectations.
Are there perhaps any drawbacks that are not immediately obvious? For example, whether the magnets lose strength over time or if there are issues with the doors not closing fully by accident. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Additional information on durability: Neodymium magnets, often used for these types of closing aids, have a very high remanence and practically do not lose magnetic strength under normal conditions. Significant weakening occurs only under extreme temperatures or mechanical damage.
Therefore, long-term functionality is well ensured. Proper installation and avoiding excessive physical stress on the mounting remain important.

The magnets ensure a smooth and almost silent closingI can confirm that. Especially in an open-plan apartment, I find the magnetic closing aid ideal, as it prevents loud slamming, which can also help avoid material damage in the long run.
However, for heavy doors, it’s worth considering additional dampers if the magnets alone are not quite enough.
Thank you for your detailed feedback!
I will try using one set and pay particular attention to the adjustment. It’s good to hear that the durability of the magnets is generally rated positively.
One last question for the experienced members here: Do you have any specific recommendations on which brands or sets are better to go for, or are most products in this area of similar quality?
I don’t want cheap low-quality stuff, but also not overpriced accessory sets.

Do you have any special recommendations for brands or sets?In my experience, well-known home furnishing stores like IKEA sometimes offer suitable sets that work well. Alternatively, sets from brands such as Blum or Hettich are very reliable and often have better workmanship. These tend to be a bit more expensive but are worth it for heavy use.
In general, I recommend paying attention to materials and customer reviews—especially on Amazon or specialist retailers. Some cheap products may have strong magnets but show weaknesses in the casing construction.
