danielasu11 Jul 2023 08:47Hello everyone,
I am planning to get a shoe rack and am specifically interested in the Ikea Platsa system. Since it is available in different configurations, I wanted to ask: who among you has experience using the Ikea PLATSA as a shoe rack?
I am primarily interested in how stable the rack is for different types of shoes (e.g., sneakers, boots, even heavy winter shoes), how much storage space can actually be used, and how easy the assembly was.
Additionally, it would be helpful to know if the system is sturdy enough when fully loaded or if there are any disadvantages in that regard.
Thanks in advance for your feedback, and feel free to share suggestions for alternative solutions if PLATSA is not very suitable!

Who of you already has experience with the Ikea PLATSA as a shoe cabinet?I have been using PLATSA for shoes for a year. Stability is okay, but for heavy boots, I recommend additional reinforcements. The storage space is flexible thanks to the adjustable shelves. Assembly is straightforward.

I am primarily interested in how stable the shelf is for different types of shoes (e.g., sneakers, boots, even heavy winter shoes)The Ikea PLATSA system is fundamentally designed to be modular and sturdy. The shelves support about 15 kg (33 lbs) per level. For heavy boots, I recommend placing the shelves as low as possible to better distribute the load.

how much storage space can actually be used and how easy the assembly wasDepending on the chosen width and height, multiple rows of shoes can be stored, although the depth is somewhat limited and does not accommodate very tall boots. The assembly instructions are well documented, with typical assembly time around 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on experience.
In summary, PLATSA is recommended for flexible storage needs and moderate loads; it may reach its limits with extremely heavy and tall boots.
Hello,
I have been using the PLATSA system as a shoe rack in my entryway for two years and can share my experience.
- Stability: The construction is solid when you install the shelves with the appropriate back panels. It is important to assemble the connecting fittings correctly, as this ensures the rack remains stable even when fully loaded with shoes.
- Storage space: Depending on the configuration, you can choose shelves with adjustable shelves, which is ideal for different shoe sizes. I have easily stored sneakers, low shoes, and even tall boots in it.
- Assembly: The instructions are clear, and I managed to assemble it by myself. If you have some DIY skills, it should take about an hour.
If you plan to store very heavy winter shoes, I would recommend adding extra reinforcement—such as securing the rack to the floor and wall—to prevent wobbling, despite the good build quality.
In summary, the PLATSA works very well for me as a shoe rack and feels overall more premium than other budget systems. If you value flexibility, it is one of the better options in the low-budget segment.

If you plan to store very heavy winter boots, I would recommend considering additional reinforcement despite the good workmanshipI can confirm that. I also had the PLATSA module in the hallway and encountered stability issues with heavier models. I then used angle brackets for wall mounting as extra support.
Otherwise: easy to assemble, plenty of storage space. Especially the ability to adjust the shelf height makes the system very versatile.

how stable the shelving unit is for different types of shoes (e.g., sneakers, boots, even heavy winter boots)The stability of the PLATSA system depends on proper assembly and adhering to the load limits. Ikea states a load capacity of approximately 15 kg per shelf, which is sufficient for regular shoes. For heavy winter boots, it is better to use lower shelves and, if necessary, secure the unit to the wall.

If you value flexibility, this is one of the better solutions in the low-budget segmentI agree. Thanks to its modular design, PLATSA is highly adaptable and can accommodate a wide range of sizes and shoe types, provided the system is planned carefully.
In general, I recommend sorting the parts beforehand and following the instructions step by step to ensure an uncomplicated assembly.
