Hello everyone, I’m currently assembling an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and wondering which tools are really useful for the job. It seems to me that the supplied screwdrivers and hex keys are sometimes less effective—especially when more robust tools with better grips or higher torque could be used. Maybe a cordless drill or even a rasp file might come in handy? Which tools have you used when working on your Hemnes furniture, which ones would you not want to be without, and why? I would appreciate concrete recommendations, ideally including experience with specific steps like attaching the back panel or assembling the doors.

Do you all use your cordless screwdrivers with torque control?Personally, I always use the lowest torque setting when assembling IKEA furniture. This naturally prevents over-tightening, while the screws still hold firmly. In my experience, a cordless screwdriver is especially useful for assembling large pieces like Hemnes if you know the right techniques. For finer work, you can switch back to manual screwing.

A small hammer with a light head is recommended to avoid damaging the wood. When installing the doors, it is important to position the hinges carefully and as precisely as possible – a small Phillips screwdriver and a cordless drill with low torque are usually sufficient for this. For particularly tight screws, a small wrench or pliers can sometimes help to hold or tighten the screw.
