Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to assemble an IKEA Brimnes furniture piece and am wondering which tools are truly necessary for the assembly and which ones can safely be left out.
The Brimnes is relatively simple in design, but I don’t want to prepare too many tools that might ultimately not be used.
Has anyone had experience with this and can clearly say which tools are not needed for assembling the Brimnes? I’m interested in both surprising tips and the classic tools that people might mistakenly think are required.
Thank you in advance for any advice and recommendations!

For everyone who wants to assemble the Brimnes easily and safely, here is a brief guide on the tools you can confidently skip:
First: Hammer. The Brimnes connections use dowels and cam locks that can be turned with the included hex key. Using a hammer may cause more harm than good.
Second: Drill or cordless screwdriver. The screws are designed to be tightened by hand. Excessive torque can cause the holes to tear out.
Third: Pliers or wire cutters. These are unnecessary for assembly and usually don’t improve the process.
Fourth: Saw or other cutting tools. No trimming is needed, as all parts come pre-cut and ready to fit.
Summary: The included hex key plus a steady hand are all you need. This approach protects both the materials and your nerves.

Awesome. The joints on the BRIMNES use dowels and cam fittings that can be turned with the included tool.Exactly, to add: No screwdriver needed since no Phillips screws are used. Just use the Allen key.

- Cordless screwdriver or drill (since plastic anchors and screws can be easily installed by hand)gadalu schrieb:
- Sledgehammer or other heavy impact toolsThank you very much for these precise suggestions!
Are there any additional tools that might be useful to have on hand in case unexpected issues arise, or is the included hex key really sufficient? Perhaps a small tape measure or a spirit level?
I would be interested to know which extra aids could be helpful without being strictly necessary.
